THIS Is Why You Shouldn't Trust Main Dealers To Fix Your Car!

One of the main reasons I left the Audi dealer recently. Warranty isn’t worth the paper work it’s written on. We aren’t allowed to do our own correct testing, everything has to be followed to Audi standards. We don’t have access to any testing equipment that isn’t in the workshop manual. There’s no way to test an injector in the dealer, other than activate low rail and watch with a camera. There are some good techs in the dealers, just aren’t allowed to be good techs. I’m an accredited Audi Master Technician, absolutely loving life in an independent now.

And that's why I watch this channel, no bullshit, just straight talking, and I love the fact that he's calling out these main dealers.

They are all as bad as each other. I had a water pump replaced on my Merc on its last service under warranty due to it leaking. Almost 12-13 months later it started losing coolant. My mechanic looked at it and said the water pump is leaking. I took it back to Merc and the service manager agreed that it was not fair for that part to be leaking after 13 months and that they would replace it FOC. They had the car for a whole day and I heard nothing until 5PM when they called to tell me they found no water pump leak and that it could be a head or head gasket issue which I would have to pay to investigate. I turned up the next morning all guns blazing, showed their tech the spray marks behind the pulley. They reluctantly replaced the water pump again FOC and guess what…… it stopped losing coolant.

i keep telling people - assume main dealers do nothing and charge you - when they do something they make it worse ; - not always but far to often ;;

How is it 2.5k to remove a cylinder head with the motor in the car?

As an ex audi apprentice, this is one of the main reasons i left over 10yrs ago. i'd been around engineering all my life with my dad being an RAF chief engineer then working for rolls royce, i was always more into the automotive side and was very surprised when i started at a main dealership of what i consider a premium brand the standard of work and knowledge of engineering that i saw. obviously this isnt every branch and they all vary, but ive heard to many of these storys that correlate what i personally saw for it to be uncommon. i think theres alot of riding on your laurels going on in the automotive world especially with premium brands such as audi because there are so many people that want a slice of the pie now the quality of workmanship has suffered to maintian the same profit margins, which is more to do with the particular francise as you said rather than audi themselves, but when they are representing the brand to the public its not a good look.

everyone has the odd off day , and we all can be led down the wrong path / train of thought ,,, but when that error gets passed onto the customer well , thats where the unfair part creeps in , not only did Audi not fix the car , they didnt diagnose whats wrong with it , so basically they may as well just left the car in the car park and charged the customer for not fixing it ,,,, not a great business model.

Wouldn’t expect anything less from a main stealer

The problem with the dealer is you have a varying skill level and a workshop controller that just wants an empty desk by the end of the day. So it’s just your luck whether you get a master technician or a service technician working on your car or someone who loves their job vs someone who’s fed up with cars. I work at a dealer and would sack nearly half my colleagues if I was in charge lol.

They're not called stealerships for nothing.

The chair in the corner of a hotel room are designed for the people who take their motor to a main dealers.

In the late 90s early 2000s I used to work at an independent garage doing diagnostics, there were only 3 of us, the main dealers like vauxhall used to bring their vehicles to us along with their Tech 2 diagnostic code reader and get us to diagnose the car for them as none of them knew how to use the Tech 2 or interpret the information. We couldn't believe how poorly trained they were.

I work in main dealer. Not with audi though. Issue is that franchises make hardly any money from warranty work. Maybe a bit from the labour but are limited on time as warranty will only pay for so much labour. They are a business to make money and so concentrate on retail.
