A big part of what I like about this channel is the reveal when something is tasted that we're really interested in knowing about. When the food is as common as shown in this video, that reveal element is lost. Keep up the good work!

Flake/Gummy Shark is a very Melbourne (ie. in the state of Victoria) thing for fish n chips. Where I live in New South Wales, if you order fish n chips, the fish will more than likely be Hoki (aka Blue Grenadier) and probably imported from New Zealand. Also, that Barramundi he had would almost definitely be imported from SE Asia, probably Vietnam. Australian native Barramundi is sooo much better but is also generally prohibitively expensive for fish n chip shops. Lastly, those chips (aka fries) were probably the frozen variety. "Old school" fish n chip shops do their chips more like English chippies do - peel their own potatoes, then twice fried in store. Commonly known nowadays as "hand cut chips". Shops that do this style are unfortunately becoming more and more rare.

As an Aussie: This is the best vid I've seen showing our food. The only nit pick would be Hoki over Gummy Shark, but that's also location based but you also did out Barramundi. So yeah the only vid about our food I agree with.

Hahaha, time stamp 1:34. In South Africa, we call it a garage pie! Usually a favorite after a hard night out and in need of food!! And the garage shops are the only ones open at ungodly times...

My wife and I spent a month in Australia travelling from the north east coast to the south east coast and to Tasmania. Australia is SO pristine and the people SO kind and helpful! Though a melting pot of cultures, mainly British, all together they have a beautiful, unique character all their own. We loved every minute. Never had a meal we didn't enjoy. Especially loved the sea food, the lamb roasts and the steak. OMG! It's a long flight but worth it. We love Australia.

16:55 Probably talking bout haddock there. I don't think I've ever seen halibut in a UK fish and chip shop, but most serve haddock and cod.

14:40 - depending on the state you are in you will find them called Potato Cakes, Potato Fritters, or Potato Scallops.

Mitch seems so knowledgable and actually isn't ashamed to say that Australia doesn't necessarily have their own cuisine, but rather is a combination and extraction of all the different countries and cultures we have. I have also found it so interesting how there isn't ever any indigenous inspired cuisine. Would LOVEEEE to see that or even have some of those experiences!
