Restaurateur Billy Dec’s Filipino “Food Roots:” New PBS documentary and Detroit restaurant

Is this guy even filipino or is this another exploiter of filipino food and culture?! This is the problem, these folks travel to very rural areas of the Philippines to source out local farmers and artisans to exploit them for product that filipinos have valued and treasured for decades only to take the knowledge of the local peoples, pay them at dirt cheap costs, take local products and pass it off as their own without real and transparent representation of the filipino culture, people, way of life, and food. It's like suddenly all these foreigners jump on the band wagon of 'filipino everything is the cool thing right now' let me make a buck out of them. That's upsetting! I mean, in the suburbs off where i live here in Cali, you'll see ube products everywhere... except, it really isnt ube, doesn't even taste remotely like ube but people here are passing it off like it was a genuine Philippine product!! Unfortunately, companies that make these so-called 'ube-flavored' products here are NOT Filipinos! Maybe they visited the Philippines once or saw something on YT or the internet about Filipino foods on the rise internationally, and decided to make money off it! It's actually quite disgusting and disingenuous! The Philippines and Filipinos deserve better! They deserve better representation and A LOT LESS EXPLOITATION of their people and natural resources!😡

Lumpia is a spring roll, NOT an egg roll. Ingredients are different, AND you don't use egg roll wrappers with lumpia; you use spring roll.

Hopefully, he'll open a new joint that is more Filipino. SUNDA is just a fusion of what your typical White folk thinks of Filipino food. I'm sure this new experience of him going back to Pinas would be an eye opener..
