I know your channel is for women, but it's been a real help for me. I had dipped my toes in minimalism awhile back. But lately my home hasn't felt like a home. I didn't understand why my home was making me so miserable. But it was all of the tasks that needed done. It was crippling. My house wasn't gross or filthy...just cluttered. I spent the weekend taking everything out of my upstairs except the furniture. The 2 bedrooms we use JUST to sleep, plus the kids are only here on the weekends. The other room is a movie/video game room with my weight bench and 2 recliners. It doesn't need all the cluttered stuff. Now I get to go through all the stuff downstairs and work. But I'm actually starting to feel at rest at home.
Years ago I took off all magnets and pictures from the refrigerator. Game changer. I feel like there's nothing that make a kitchen look more cluttered than a busy refrigerator.
One thing that I have done to limit getting a lot of seasonal decor, is that I only decorate my door and my mantle, nowhere else.
I hushed my kitchen in Clutter Camp and have not gone back! still find it sooo calming!
Love you Dawn ❤❤❤
House hushing is a great decluttering technique!! ❤❤❤
Cass the Clutterbug, The Millennial Minimalist and now Dawn - all have had the same guest in the last week. Awesome! 👏🏻
I accidentally hushed my living room, when I removed all future, lamps, baskets, cat toys…everything . Probably for 4 days. I did it because I was getting my carpets cleaned and wanted them to have access to all the carpet. For a few days I had just one chair where I sat in the evening. And I looked at the built in book shelves on both sides of my fire place. Shelves on one side were great as everything was in nice fabric coated bins. However the other side had one bin bit then things on the shelves. I scrounge through my house to find more of those bins and put in the smaller objects in them, and the book. I added back the furniture, hid the cat toys and scratch pad behind a chair, and passed on several objects I really didn’t love or need. ❤
I love your advice and videos but Pleeeeeeease do NOT encourage the use of AI to any capacity!!! 🙏 Please and thank you! 🫶❤
Great interview, great conversation. I love both of y’all’s tips
So I'm not sure this name had been attached when I did this I think about 4ish years ago...I was just trying to move through a traumatic experience and got whatever reason I found myself just removing everything from my walls and surfaces pictures nick nacks etc... And it just felt sooo calming...I think it just helped me with the heaviness I was dealing with at the time...fast forward...I just did it again... For me I think it is permanent... essentials only for the most part...I decorate with the essentials my lamp...the throw blanket I actually use...ect...I love it... It just feels good.
But where did all the stuff go from the counters? I don't have enough cupboards to house the things on my counter.
I have ADHD, anxiety and major depression. It can be so hard to keep up with my house and it feels like it’s drowning me no matter how hard I try to declutter. I think this may actually be the way for me. Going to give it a go.
I like a clean look but those kitchens are too bare! Giving short term rental property
To each his/her own. It has to be what makes you feel peaceful.
My whole house looks like an explosion. first time I heard that expression and that really suits me. And I really love the idea of house hushing
My refrigerator is the ONLY place I allow photos. I have eight 4x6 magnetic frames that I use. I switch out the photos a couple of times a year.
Dawn, you need a neti pot. Seriously. Game changer. Use it every day, twice when needed, till this clears up, then periodically for maintenance. Don't use tap water and make sure you keep it clean. Do some research on it so you don't end up dying from using it wrong (introducing bacteria) lol but honestly, it's immediate relief. Anyone who gets sinus infections or any sinus issues at all (are sick etc) NEEDS a neti pot. You can buy the saline solution (liqiod or powder) or make your own, but really be sure you know how first and use distilled water. Do it. ❤
My "season of life" can be busy and chaotic: work, children and taking care of grandchildren. Hushing a space has been a life changer. Even in my mid 50s I am learning what my mind, soul and family need. Breaking out of the pattern of "this is how it needs to be done." I no longer have coffe table or end tables in my living space: clutter catchers food/drinks at kitchen counter. No longer have dish drainer, knife block, utensil caddy on counter or small appliances on counter. Bathroom counters only have handsoap at sink. My husband and I have been protecting these areas, when they become cluttered we get grumpy and household function is not positive. We DO NOT need all the stuff. We pushed back on removing certain things but got past the excuses, declutted nonfunctioning/ beneficial items and now our space is more functional and peaceful.
Love you Dawn but “hushing” my kitchen created MASSIVE clutter and chaos in other areas of my house- it totally derailed and destroyed the rest of my home. I had to quit your group because the whole idea of “hushing” infected even the coaches so I couldn’t even benefit from the body doubling!! I had a clean and organized home except for my 3rd bedroom/junk room. After hushing my kitchen cause my whole home to imploded. Temporary piles turned into almost 3 months of piles. Still not fully dug out from under. Those of us that LOVE and are MASSIVELY successful with Dana K White’s method will be derailed by this method. I tried your clutter camp and promised myself I wouldn’t fall for anything other method cuz I have 60 years of knowing they don’t work for me. I just wanted to benefit from body doubling … alas I didn’t follow my gut and tried it… my home lost the traction of years of having a decluttered home, effective routines and turned into a summer of doom piles that grew and spread. The body doubling before the “hushing” method infected it. So now I went back to using YouTube videos for body doubling.
