After 10 years of living in Japan, I’ve reached a point where I’m not sure what comes next. This week’s Japan vlog is a personal life update about my health, work, money, friends leaving Japan, and the possibility that I may have to leave someday too. Most days lately have been pretty simple. I go to the gym, come home overheated, make some udon, clean my old Japanese house, and try to answer emails without getting distracted. Then my neck decided it no longer wanted to turn, which ruined the very "impressive" routine I had going. I also explain why I haven’t been posting much. Since leaving my bunny-bar job and tiny Tokyo apartment, I’ve been dealing with career stress, a private dispute, health problems, family and relationship issues, and a lot of anxiety about my future in Japan. When too many problems pile up, I freeze. Cleaning and working out give me one small thing I can actually finish. I’m slowly decluttering my Japanese home and planning to list some of my collection on Mercari Japan. Having less stuff makes the house feel calmer. It would also make moving a little easier if my life changes in the future. This weekly vlog shows my daily life in Japan as an American woman living in Tokyo. There’s gym footage, Japanese summer heat, food, home organization, mental health, starting over, and one extremely stiff neck. If life feels heavy for you too, I hope this video keeps you company. We can’t solve everything in one day. Doing one useful thing is enough for today. Silvie, please go check your thyroid, not just TSH, but also free T3 and free T4. Lots of hugs, take care of yourself!
Talking about your feelings is not complaining.
I'm not sure if you've already mentioned this, but your physical symptoms could be from hidden mold in your house! Stay healthy & hope you feel better.
Something is off. You have a lot of mold in that house from what I’ve seen and my last apartment was full of it. I had tons of symptoms. Constantly tired. Panic attacks. Joint pain. Blood sugar crashes kidney stones, horrible depression and anxiety. Some of us are nore sensitive to mold than others. Just a thought. Be well.
Silvie PLEASE listen to us, Mold exposure is NO joke, I just watched another video where you showed the water damage in your ceiling of the kitchen. I stayed at an AirBnB in Myrtle Beach that was ridden with mold for less than a week and it made me so ill. If you are being exposed to mold, it can cause some adverse health issues.
Babe you also came off your meds a little while ago. It’s entirely possible that these worries feel more overwhelming now because you aren’t getting that neurochemical support. Regarding the cracking mouth sides, it’s called angular cheilitis and can be a sign of low iron and/or low vitamin levels. Getting a full blood panel done should provide some answers, but if you need fast relief Bepanthen ointment can be helpful. I hope things start feeling more comfortable soon x
Silvie, I am concerned about the dining room roof collapsing. I pray your Landlord gets it repaired and you don't get infected by mold
I wonder if you would like Taiwan. There is a big Japanese influence ( it was colonised for 50 years) and many Taiwanese learn Japanese. They also have more positive feelings towards foreigners, and seem very globalised. I just moved to the south of the island, and am enjoying teaching kids. It’s more easygoing than I thought it would be, and I’m able to save money. 😊 Taiwan was also the first Asian country to legalise gay marriage! 🏳️🌈
I have noticed I always feel better the more I stay off social media :( it's all become so negative!
OMG I FEEL THE EXACT SAME WAY. THE INTERNET IS MAKING ME HATE THE WORLD AND I'M LOSING MY HOPE I have detached a lot from the internet and social media and now I read more and it has helped a lot , but your videos are some of the few places I still like to engage with because you're neutral and normal and not at all manipulative
You always seem so sad, I hope you find happiness and good health.
As far as uncertainty goes, this is the world we live in. It’s always going to be challenging. I’ve been a surgical RN working in emergency surgery for decades. May I suggest you ask your physician for a full blood panel including for diabetes and thyroid issues. You do have several of the classic symptoms for either.
😢 same reason I can’t stay long term. Went to the doctors in America after Years of trying to Japan and they found the issue immediately 😩 & had me on a treatment plan that helped so much 😢wish I didn’t spend years suffering in Japan
It's sooo easy to fall into the negative online, my social media apps have had timer locks for over a year and it's helped tremendously. It feels like life is tough for everyone right now but we can be tougher! Always so happy to see you upload and wishing the very best for you 💕
Silvie, i agree with everybody who's saying, check the thyroid. Get a full panel done and get a full panel done on your blood too. You probably have issues related to that. If you are taken biotin, stop it now. Regarding to the movement in Japan towards residency, make a game plan to move to thailand or bali. It's cheaper there. But I would personally go to thailand for the medical coverage
Hi silvie! Just clicked on your video so I have t finished it but I want you to know I really appreciate how open you are about life, I’m 16 plus size and have no clue what I want as far as career goes, I’m really grateful to have access to YouTube and hear other people stories, knowing your not alone makes things so much more bearable, I just want you to know you have our support on YouTube!! Thank you!
Leave, its for the better. Im saying this as a japanese Teenager living in japan who loves your videos and cares about your feelings. Japan is already really stressful for me. Especially for foreigners who lived there for very long. Im deciding to move overseas in the future. Im sick and tired of here. Dont get fooled by the internet guys. Japan is worse than you think. It may be fun for people who are only visiting. But not to people who live here. Stop romanticizing Japan based on aesthetic TikToks, neon streetlights, and convenience stores. The reality behind closed doors is soul-crushing. Adults are literally worked to death for miserable, poverty-level wages. Kids face brutal bullying and suffocating academic pressure that drive sky-high teen suicide rates, with runaways forced into drugs and selling their bodies just to survive. Foreigners aren't safe either you'll face blatant xenophobia, housing discrimination, and dead-end exploitation. Ignoring this dark human cost is a joke.
Money and housing insecurity is at all time high, this year especially is opening my eyes to the very real possibility that even my family could lose everything. I pray everything gets better and I’m rooting for you! At least we’re all in this together. ❤
I love how slow paced your videos are, I'm so tired of the over animated, fast, attention grab content. You remind me to slow down when I can in this fast paced world 💞✨✨
Hi Silvie, cracked corners of the mouth and a sensitive tongue can be symptoms of a vitamin B12 deficiency. If you have an autoimmune condition such as Graves’ disease or Hashimoto’s, this can occur more easily. It might be a good idea to have your blood checked.
