To anyone thinking about doing this, make sure ALL of the metal, including the chains and the fencing are steel/iron and not coated, painted or galvanized. Cooking on galvanized/zinc coated metal will literally kill you. Be aware that most shiny metal, especially fencing, is going to be galvanized.
I remember a YouTube without ads or AI narrated trash videos
Tips use dry rocks that have been in the sun for a while, rocks have air pockets and can hold water which will explode when heated and murk your entire family
The technique with the grill hanging from the chain is called "Schwenker" (from the word sway) and its a big part of my culture. I live in Saarland, Germany. We always grill like this and are the only ones in Germany, who have this tradition and stick with it. The main meat that we grill is called "Schwenker" too. Usually we use Beech Wood, which dried at least two years. Only difference is, we dont do this with the wire and the stones around the fire. Most of the time we have a metal peel under it or an open fire. The food gets pretty awesome, when you grill like this. Just keep the grill moving and spinning slowly above the fire. Really recommend it.
Well sure the rocks withstand the heat ...but it's not guaranteed the wire does ...
Yeah I just use my grill I got at Home Depot
The galvanized wire could kill you and the rocks will be a pain to clean
Not a single person gonna say shit about the ALUMINUM carabiners?
Rocks to grill good job mate they built up moisture and bam
if you heat up a rock when dampen (after rain or one that has been sitting is water), the heat will cause the water to expand, which can cause the rock to violently explode.
This is awesome! Except when you try to flip the food, the hanging grill will swing in all directions. Needs some poles on the side to prevent that.
How-to get ash build up out?? Fire on ground.. Frame, chain, grill above.. Much easier, cheaper...
The heat and cooling cycles will have the wire rusted away in a couple of months. The cheap, thin metal post will rust away shortly after. The aluminum carabiners wonβt last long at allβ¦β¦ In 6 months all that will be left is a rusty chain and a pile of rock.
I can cook sumthin on a few sticks I find in the woods if need be, wal mart has grills all day long..40$ 50$, and no worry of poisoning ourself, blowing ourself up, and cheaper than the chain and rocks, wal mart option has screws included
ONe main problem rocks might explode when wet and you might need shelter the BBQ.
The pole is a darn razor blade my dudeππ
I know where you can buy a $30 grill. That'll do the same thing. You got to remember , most kids today. Can't even change a tire. Not that that looks sturdy at all.
Lol , and how u will clean it ?
Itβs crazy what people call βa bbq grillβ plus that chain to adjust the height is gonna be hot as hell
You can incorporate a drip pan so all the oils grease does not go into the coals and preventing oversaturation from burnt grease. When the meat is near done you can hang it over the coals a few minutes, to add extra crispiness.
