Just a couple of comments to add here as I'm getting too many to answer individually! Yes, I've reported this. We are not permitted fences or cameras on our plots. I don't have a problem with someone coming on my plot just to take a look or see what's growing, only if something is taken! I've just filmed my initial reaction to all this and recorded my thoughts as they came to me. After a week away from the allotment, I feel a lot calmer and less reactive. It was just netting, I'll get some more. I think this year has just been a lot so far and I needed a little break, which I have now had and feel much better for! I always try to show the reality of allotment plots and don't want to pretend these things don't exist. They do, it's heartbreaking, but you either move on and continue or throw in the towel and give up. So far, I've continued because I do love this space so much. Who else will feed Einstein if not me?? xx
I'm so sorry you have had to experience all this. I know you have built your platform on having an allotment garden but, and I am sure many others would agree with me, I truly believe you have gained a community here on Youtube that watches your videos for YOU and who YOU are more so than just gardening content. If you are feeling burned out (4 videos a week is amazing but it is a lot!) then I think you should listen to that and step back if need be. Whether that's going down to one or two videos a week or even taking time off completely! Those of us who love watching you will still be here to support ❤ people evolve over their life and one of the lovely things about watching someone for years on Youtube is getting to see how they change and evolve as well, whether that is their content or interests. Personally I love your Sunday diaries, they are so cosy and comforting to me. Sorry if this turned into me babbling but hopefully there is some encouragement in this comment for you :)
Complain to the secretary so a message goes out to all plot holders about theft
Sort your shed out and lock your stuff away…it’s too much of a temptation for a thief when your purchases are on show…and get a wildlife camera for evidence…and definitely report to your allotment committee…these things happen you have to be one step ahead…hope the holiday was good…xx
Just close down the allotment Emma and continue to grow at home. Using every spare pot and space available. Hope you have a well deserved break in Devon ❤
Do a walk round the allotment and see if anyone has got a bit of the netting
Don’t let the thief get you down, if you do, they win
I completely understand your frustration. I do think you need to walk away from it Emma. This should be your sanctuary, where you come to get restored. I don't think that im alone when I say we love your home videos. You have a garden at home. I really enjoy watching you tend to it. You are about to embark on a new adventure buying your new house. We are ALL coming along with you.
EMMA ! When i had my Allotment it was broken into & things stolen many times and i also suffer from poor mental health so each time i was broken into it knocked me on my arse im 6ft 1in & 19st but i got so low The final straw was when my Dad passed away he had 2 chickens so i took them to my Allotment to join my other hens 4 days after my Dad died i went to my plot and my Dads 2 chickens had been taken just those 2 the other 8 were fine ! It felt personal that time & broke me ! I now Garden at home Much better Sending hope & Love to you ❤
Do not leave anything on the allotment that is worth stealing. Sorry this is the world we now live in. Carry on do not give up. God bless.
Emma, with the solar fountain being taken out of your pond, we had the same keep happening with us, we eventually found out it was foxes taking it out of the pond! So sorry about the rest of the stuff that is happening. When we had an allotment, we had all our pumpkins stolen and they all knew we had young children because they used to be up the plot with us 😢
Had my allotment 6yrs two plots, luckily I haven’t had anything stolen but others have, but this year it’s been hard and I’ve thought a few times to throw the towel in, it’s been one thing after another this summer, my anxiety gets on top of me and any little thing that goes wrong on my plots when I have anxiety sends me over the edge, I take a break and a rethink and pull up my big girl pants and crack on, I have to say though if had a big garden and privacy I would give it up and grow at home, you have a good following and I think they would still tune in if you chose to leave the allotment, I know I would as I enjoy your posts especially the Sunday ones, keep your pecker up love we are all here for you.
Sometimes Tolerance is Just an example of Idleness, people who cannot be bothered to challenge wrongdoing. Politicians are Prime Examples of the Art.
I totally agree stealing is stealing, but maybe going and speaking to the people who have plots near you might help you with the information you need? Is there not anybody who is in charge of the whole allotment you can talk to? Just sitting there thinking about it more and more isn't going to do you any good or your anxiety. If this has happened a lot over the years you should most definitely be bringing it up to people. All the best. x
Your videos are relaxing to watch, allotment not necessary. Moving and decorating your new home, new garden, cooking, it's all good. Seasons change, life changes too.
Could you try fitting a lock to your greenhouse door?
Here's a neat cheap idea, just put signs up stating CCTV cameras in operation. It might work at little to no cost and if challenge by Management inform them there are no cameras just notices. Keep at it, positive thoughts with a smile will help.
I'm so sorry you are dealing with this. I fell in love with allotments 20 years ago. But I could never deal with theft, etc. I have some land now and love my garden. I pray this shows you that you need to buy a home with enough room to make your own backyard allotment. Show us from the ground up how you build it and plant it. I will always be a follower. Your heart, wit, honesty, compassion for the animals and relationship with the viewers make you so special. Keep your head up, your eyes focused and pray for the perfect property to come your way. Much love from Arkansas USA. ❤️
Very few things worse than a thief!
At the moment your doing 4 videos a week that's crazy hard work with the editing involved maybe Reduce it to a weekly allotment and your Sunday one.
