Hope you enjoyed it! If you're new to my channel and videos, hi! I'm Evan Edinger, and I make weekly "comedy" videos every Sunday evening. As an American living in London I love noticing the funny differences between the cultures and one of my most popular video series is my British VS American one. I'm also known for making terrible puns so sorry in advance. Hope to see you around, and I'll see you next Sunday! :) If you want to know HOW I make my videos including gear, lighting, all the tiddly bits that connect it all together, (with cheaper alternatives and kit I used to use), I've listed each item, what it's great at, and why I use it on the gear section of my website here: https://www.evanedinger.com/blog/my-gear Otherwise: here's a quick list of some of my kit without descriptions from the above link: Camera: Sony A7siii https://geni.us/Evana7siii Main Lens: Sony 24mm f/1.4 G-Master https://geni.us/Evan24 Secondary Lens: Sony 16-35mm f/2.8 G-Master https://geni.us/Evan1635 360 Cam: Insta360 X5 https://geni.us/Evan360 Main Light: Aputure 120d mkii https://geni.us/Evan120d Shotgun Microphone: Sennheiser MKH-416 https://geni.us/Evan416 Really useful SSD: SanDisk Extreme Portable 2TB https://geni.us/EvanPortSSD The background music I use is all from Epidemic Sound! I love that you make videos about whatever interests you at the time. Often, I share your interests, and when I don't, I find your curiosity is infectious.
the grass is definitely not greener here in the UK. it's pretty brown and dry right now
Making content about what you're passionate about at the time is a level of authenticity that feels lacking on YouTube
4:20 - remember the book "Shit Towns", which got a sequel because so many people complained at their town being left out....
As an American who's been living in Brighton for a few years now, I feel super awkward when someone in the US asks me if I would recommend living in the UK because man I don't know, I live in Brighton.
Yep, self-depreciation is one of the things that crosses generations :) we do love our cities and homes, but we struggle talking ourselves up more of a class thing tbh.
The channel is called "Evan Edinger"... so it is about you. I love how fresh and different your videos are and enjoy watching. Thank you!
Nothing better than an Evan Edinger video featuring a lovely bicycle ride
Born and raised in Northern California, I spent a couple of years in Seattle before settling in the UK 20 years ago. Best decision I've yet made, wouldn't go back.
I've been here 38 years (all my adult life - originally a New Yorker) - I can't imagine living anywhere else. I live nearish Windsor. OK, it's not perfect but this is my home.
Moved to London from Washington DC 37 years ago, and absolutely love the entire country. Yes, like other people have said it has its problems but which country doesn’t!
I feel like your niche is curiosity about how things work around us. Seems pretty consist to me. Also it’s all connected by you and your personality and enthusiasm for learning and deep diving into things.
But you did leave London. You went to Mexico City and Taipei. Then you went back!
Many people live under the “Tyranny of things” you need a big house just to fill it with stuff you don’t need. A smaller house forces you to be more selective in the things you need and value, unless you’re a messy. Free yourself from things and you find that less is more.
Absolutely love that area in the beginning of the video (Shadwell Basin) ended up there on a photowalk with some buddies and got some amazing shots of people diving in on a hot day.
Love that I never know what you are going to talk about each week. I don’t think there is one that has not interested or entertained me.
Makes me think of why I love Glasgow so much, its got that small tightknit community feeling and its not busy at all outside the two main streets in the city center, but it also has amazing transport connections and cycle paths and other infrastructure as well as lots of fun stuff to do and unique bars and restaurants to eat at like any other major city, truly the best of both worlds I think.
I got a job offer that was in London. It would have been a good career move, but I just couldn't make it work financially. They would have had to have paid me 10k more than they were offering for it to be worth it with the difference in the cost of rent/housing or commuting. So sticking with my fixed term gig up in the Midlands and continuing to search for the next career move.
Your contents changed a lot since I first watched your videos, oh god around 9 years ago now, but you've been authentic throughout. Its kept me interested through the years
Another great Evan podcast episode. I love those. Thanks!
