I Went Fossil Hunting... and Nearly Died

People and blogs

This was supposed to be a relaxing camping trip with Diggy, a bit of fossil hunting on the Yorkshire coast, and a few peaceful days away. Instead, it became the most frightening experience of my life. After already having to deal with a herd of cows blocking the path to the beach, I set off along the coastline believing I was heading towards Robin Hood's Bay. What I didn't realise was that I'd already passed through the village and was walking further and further away into increasingly dangerous terrain. As the cliffs became steeper and the rocks more difficult to cross, I eventually reached a point where I couldn't go any further. That's when I checked the time, realised the tide was rising, had no mobile phone signal to call 999, and knew I had to somehow get myself and Diggy back before the sea cut us off. In this video, I tell the whole story from a metal detecting field, show the footage I recorded during the trip, and explain exactly what happened from beginning to end. If there's one thing I hope people take away from this, it's this: Never underestimate the power of the tide, and never assume you know where you are on an unfamiliar coastline. Thankfully, Diggy and I made it home safely. If you enjoy metal detecting, camping, adventure and honest outdoor stories, I'd really appreciate you subscribing to the channel. Thanks for watching, Digger Dawn #FossilHunting #YorkshireCoast #MetalDetecting
