I moved from the Netherlands to New York... and finding a room turned out to be way harder than I expected.** With no U.S. credit score, a tight budget, and New York's infamous 40x rent rule standing in my way, I honestly wasn't sure if I'd be able to find a place at all. In this video, I take you through the entire journey: * Exploring different NYC neighbourhoods * Learning how the New York rental market actually works * Dealing with the 40x rent rule and why it's such a challenge * Looking into guarantors, subleases, month-to-month rentals, and other options * Touring rooms across the city * And finally finding an affordable room I could actually call home. If you're moving to New York, studying abroad, doing an internship, or just curious what it's really like to find housing here, I hope this video gives you a realistic look at the process. Oh... I shed a tear when I watched your video. It reminds me of my first few months in New York City. I landed in America with only $4 in my pocket. I put myself through college while working as a nanny/housekeeper in Manhattan and Westchester. I now live in midtown, on 49th street, in a 1 bedroom rent stabilized apartment and I only pay $150/month thanks to my Section 8 voucher which pays most of my rent because I'm a full-time medical student now. I wish you all the best in your journey. You have such a positive attitude and you're going to do great!
I'm so happy for you, and so relieved you didn't go for the windowless shoebox!! That was a mental health crisis waiting to happen!! Looking forward to your adventures!
Dude you broke the code on this place. As long as your house mates are ok you are gold. Best of luck
Girlfriend is awesome and found a hidden gem rental! That’s a much better place than that sad first place you looked at. You will love living in NY and all you need to do is start doing activities you enjoy and friendships will form naturally. I loved living there for college and in the summers, I’d be on my own in Manhattan and it was amazing. I’m still friends with several people I met then.
Keep uploading and in one or two years you will make enough to go full time your channel is on the rise, and your videos are very well made.
