I have been saving the cut off ends of carrots, onions (skins too), garlic, zucchini, green beans - things you would normally throw away, for years. I put them in a gallon zip lock in the freezer. When it’s full, it’s time to make a soup. I transfer the vegetable scraps to a dedicated laundry bag, and place that bag into a pot of boiling water. 30 - 40 minutes later, I have a beautiful, rich, dark vegetable broth as a soup base. Pull out the laundry bag of scraps, strain the liquid into your soup pot. Scraps go into the garden as compost, bag goes to the laundry room to be washed. NOTHING gets wasted.
Your beautiful covered boxes would be great for baby shower and wedding shower gift boxes. Stuff with diapers, outfits, or kitchen tools and they have a reusable organizer too.
This reminds me, 46 years ago I was visiting my Gramma, I was going off to college, those were the days before the Walmarts invading small town USA, the days before plastic bins. My Gramma had 3 boxes with lids, about 2 times the size of a shoebox, she had contact paper and I decorated the boxes and used them for under bed storage all throughout college and beyond, who knows, may still be somewhere in my home! We burn all paper or boxes, if I don't use them first for shipping items in the post office. Cardboard is also great for flower beds to keep moisture in and weeds out!

a thing we started doing way back when the kids we're young. (now they have kids ) go for a walk and have them pick pinecorns. they bring them home and on a rainy summer/fall day have them paint Elmer glue on them and then roll them in glitter let them dry. when you go camping or have a fire in the back yard. you toss some in and the fire will have all kinds of colors. I agree so many thing that are simple to save have been forgotten because there old and some genertions only want New things.

About the silica packets: We have an automatic litter box (affordable off amazon), and apparently the humidity in summer can make mold grow in the collection bin. Throw a few silica packets in that bin underneath the trash bag and it keeps the moisture levels down and prevents that.
I recycle all of the bubble wrap envelopes that we get from Amazon,etc. I just peel the mail labels off of them,turn them inside out and reuse them for mailing packages to friends and family.
Use pb jar lids for mason jar lids.
I thought I was the only one that did this. I sure use the empty candle containers and tape the strike part inside of the cover.

Save the wax paper bags from boxed cereal. Can use for portioning chips and snacks, wrapping sandwiches, covering a bowl in the fridge, wrap leftovers, and for separating foods into smaller portions for freezing. 😊
