You can install God mode in Home Assistant in under 10 minutes, and it changes everything. Open code is finally here and you NEED to check this out. Plain English Home Assistant is unreal. THIS VIDEO IS SPONSORED BY UGREN ALL OPINIONS ARE MY OWN For years Home Assistant has been the most powerful smart home platform available, but it’s also been the one that scared people away with YAML, templates and complicated automations. OpenCode changes all of that. You can now build automations, troubleshoot problems, understand complex configurations and even modify your Home Assistant installation using plain English. In this OpenCode Home Assistant tutorial I’ll show you how to install OpenCode, how it works with AI, whether it’s actually safe to give an LLM this much control over your smart home, and whether beginners can finally enjoy everything Home Assistant has to offer without needing to become Home Assistant experts. I felt really sorry for the Death Star guy. He needed a hug
RE: Security, it's very possible for a remote LLM to be poisoned and there's lots of research into how this can be done happening at the moment. I've never used opencode, but in most AI Coding agent environments there's mechanism to define a set of rules for permissions. You should be able to switch it to "ask" instead of "allow"... this would then ask you before executing any local or MCP tools. As for what they can do... they could tell your home assistant to install code which should never be run. It could compromise the rest of your network exploiting vulnerabilities in all your local devices. Once there's a foothold in your network, you might as well consider the rest of your network as compromised and needing a complete rebuild/reset.

A massive happy birthday to your wife this weekend 🥳
I pointed it to my local LLM agent , Gemma 4 12b
because home assistant has a full-on MCP server, agentic ai such as openclaw or hermes agent can DIRECTLY interact with home assistant including but not limited to creating automations, building/arranging dashboards, and if you wish fully serving as the voice assistant FOR home assistant. so if you have tablets or a voice satellite for openclaw set up, when you say whatever the wake word is, openclaw will use piper to do speech to text send your text to your locally running ai agent in openclaw or hermes will serve your needs like alexa does but only with the complete context of your previous conversations and skills you have set up with openclaw or hermes with all the smarts of whatever llm you're using. you can integrate it with anything you can integrate with openclaw or hermes agent as well, which is darned near anything and if an integration doesn't exist, you can ask openclaw or hermes to program it's own integration for lots of things depending on what you want to do. no programming experience required. it's the future.
Took 17 minutes into video for Paul to finally admit that he loves the big pickle. Awesome helpful video as always. Thank you for continuing to bring laughs with helpful lessons. Hope deathstar worker finds happiness.
As always, love the content, Paul. On the topic of AI and smart homes, some of the advice I've been given over the many years regarding network security is to have all of your IOT (Internet of Things) devices, and also the home assistant device (PC, Pi, Other) on a separate network or VLAN and keep that separate from your home network or work network. As this relies on some form of cloud connectivity, this means that it shouldn't be able to see what's going on with other devices, such as a works laptop/desktop or personal mobiles/tablets. I share this information with the community and try to give a little bit of context. Please feel free for anyone to correct me if I'm wrong, and I'll happily take that feedback on board.
Mate, your comedic timing is spot on! Woke my wife up laughing while watching the video! Keep up the great work!
Oh MY Goodness. Big Pickle is beyond AMAZING. Oh My Goodness. Paul you are oh oh so right about this. I installed it. Fed it my network architecture, list of my eco-systems, hubs in use, and reserved IP addresses. Told it why I do some things I do, - just for fun and the journey of doing it. And told it to remember my "stuff", it did. It build a user file that it can refer to so I don't have to keep telling it stuff. It reviewed what I am doing, fixed some stuff that was not working, suggested I remove some stuff and oh my goodness. The fun ahead. THANKS SO MUCH for this video. I'd have never known. my goodness.
I had home assistant installed on a mini pc for 2 years, it just sat there idle because it was just to confusing, then i discovered homey and wow, i could finally start setting up my smart home, drove my wife nuts with daily matter switches stop working, having to go as far as readopt them to get them back, then do it all again in a day or 2, then 2 months ago i tried letting claude directly modify my home assistant via mcp. and wow! everything works, complex automatons, helping setup a vpn so my home ha could control lights and stuff at the cottage, the matter switches have not gone off line a single time. its amazing.
I have no idea what you are doing but you make a really funny video with great special effects 😊
It's an embedded AI harness narrowly focusing on Home Assistant. Compare that to external orchestrators like OpenClaw / Hermes which can connect to Home Assistant using ha-mcp and any other servers / services on your network.
I wish i had not seen this video IM ADDICTED
This has just become a lifesaver. I’m still very new to home assistant and was having trouble with setting up dahua cctv to home assistant. I tried Claude to help me but was taking me down a rabbit hole I knew was in the wrong direction. Less than an hour later Bog Pickle had sorted it out. Thing that took the longest was waiting for the cctv lockout timer to reset after each try. Now it’s all sorted and up and running. Scary how quickly it found the problem and fixed it. I didn’t even need to tell it my password or where the cameras are on my network.
wow! i installed it and asked it to analyse my logs and it made good suggestions to fix some errors i was having.... its very impressive... thank you for the vid.... very useful 🙂
Not the first time I've been outclassed by someone with a big pickle. 😅 All jokes aside, this is bloody brilliant! It's for a couple of quirks, but it's already improved some automations that I'd been struggling with. Excellent work as usual Paul. 💪🏻
Your animation skills are so wonderful. Jamming that robot into the mini-PC, just brilliant
Great video, love the Big Pickle Scarface. Appreciate how you weave the tech and humor together.
We have a bunch of roombas here at the house. I integrated them into HA probably a year ago, but my wife never used them from there. She finally opened up, used AI and figured it out herself. Even changed the dashboard and added features so she can run them.
