“The argument for building more of these AI data centers is getting worse by the day.” Eli the Computer Guy joins The Tech Report’s Isaac Pound to discuss OpenAI’s reported inference halving breakthrough and how the astronomical spending by the AI industry has created a vulnerability to innovation.

Maybe everyone is finally realizing the consumers don't need NLP recipe generators or email inbox summarizers in exchange for higher electrical/water bills, no RAM for their PCs, and cringey AI videos clogging up their feeds.
Wow, the mood has suddenly shifted from "build data centers everywhere" to "this is a ponzi scheme".
The word, "could" hasn't done such heavy lifting since the Internet Bubble.
I have no need for an AI that makes mistakes a regular tech guy won't.
Wow, Eli is really concise and articulate when on a more formal platform. Good to see this side of him
Enron execs went to jail. Some of these execs need to go to jail as well. Trillions wasted in investments that added no value. The PC market collapsing. Thousands of experienced employees laid off. True, some are being hired back, but the cost to the businesses and the employees is painful. Energy bills going up. On the upside, it has helped the left and the right to stop it. AI has its purpose, but the hyperscaling con needs shutdown. What is worse, it has hurt the real adoption of the tech. Companies are starting to see the value in Edge compute and local, vertical models, but we should have been there earlier. Sadly, the hyperscale, circular investment scheme really hurt AI as a business that would have grown much faster.
Ed Zitron been saying this for years
OpenAI will never IPO. These models are being replaced daily by free models from China etc.
why are we blowing so much money on AI data centers instead of investing in our crumbling infrastructure
Europe is seeking sovereignty over their data and don't want to depend on American corporations that can give anyone's data if instructed by courts. Anyone, including in other countries. They're getting rid of Palantir too, which couldn't make me happier. End stage capitalism in the US is insane.
The billionaire psychopaths need to be stopped
No evidence that even a 99% reduction in costs could make these failed businesses profitable. Being more efficient doing something that doesn’t bring in revenue is pointless.
Every CEO and billionaire profiting from the layoffs of our workforce need to be investigated. We can’t have record profits and layoffs in the same quarter and call anyone asking questions “dumb” or “anti-American”. It will not work. That’s physics.
This absolutely is a ponzi scheme. So glad to find someone who is speaking out about what truly is going on.
Where are the medical and scientific breakthroughs we were promised? Where are the companies being run by a few guys in their AI agents? Why isn't any of this stuff becoming a reality?
Everyone has to fund Jensen Huang's lizard-skin leather jackets and thong bikini because he's so poor and unfortunate. At this point, we've reached peak insanity, peak bubble, peak circular financing, and peak leather jacket. Let this AI bubble pop. China is laughing.
A question. Ai model collapse happens when an Ai is trained on its output. So, how is collapse going to be avoided in the future, when this output is so common that Ai models can't avoid being trined on it?
Unfortunately, both retail investors and even big investors think it’s actual AI and have bought the marketing hype. Even politicians. Every time I see Bernie talking about AI in terms the AI booster marketing language, I die a bit inside. It’s glorified autocomplete and it reached a plateau a long time ago. They want to convince us all as long as possible in the hopes they just magically figure out profitability.
I would love to see Altman or Amodei in an interview and asked this question: "When will your companies take on the full legal, professional liability of functions relating to taxation, law and medicine that humans employed in those industries are subject to today?" It would be fun to watch them freak out.
The pathetic feature is that Scammy promoted AI as a cure for cancer. I am not saying that a model can't do that, but certainly not the vomit we are seeing spewed on everyone right now.
