I got Air Conditioning Installed at Home and Here’s What I Learned… (UK)

We had three Toshiba units fitted in my office, our bedroom and the lounge. I can keep the whole building at 20c and it is one of the best investments in the home we've made. Midlands UK.

It's a no-brainer if you own your home. The people that disagree are the same as the ones that were against double glazing and central heating back in the day 😅

I'm surprised these mini-splits aren't more popular in the UK, and before someone chimes in to say that England doesn't get hot that often, these come in a dual hot and cold too.

I'm an American immigrant to UK. I was really looking forward to getting away from the heat when we moved to England, but this last week has convinced me we need an air conditioner. We are getting older and the heat really takes it out of us. Anything to reduce stress in your life is worth it.

Midea uses GMCC compressors, which company they also own, but it's definitely not true that every other AC manufacturer uses their compressors. Daikin makes their own, Panasonic makes their own, Hitachi makes their own, LG makes their own, Mitsubishi Electric makes their own, etc. If you are planning on heating with it in the winter, you should unplug the pipe from the base pan. It's going to freeze up, destroying the conduits, and no, the base pan heater won't save it.

Most ACs nowadays also come with a dehumidifying function as well and does a really good job sort of cooling down the room whilst using significantly less electricity because the compressor isn't running constantly. I usually have this function on together with my ceiling fans turned on as well to keep it cool enough, which is a game changer.

Defiantly interested in getting one of these soon, My dad is in hospital with heatstroke for the last 2 days, his body temperature reached 46 degrees , still waiting to hear if he's going to come home. The price doesn't seem too bad will need at least 2 units in the house upstairs as the temperature gets ridiculously hot in the summer especially in Extreme heat waves. I had to have cold bath to cool down several times over the heatwave, works well but does give you cold water shock when you get in but does subside quickly, can see why people have been drowning when swimming in lakes and stuff, also Another good trick I was told by the paramedics that came round is to use an Ice pack and put on the inside of your thigh where the femoral artery is as cools the body down quickly and works very well, just thought would share those tips for those that suffer like my dad and myself in extreme heat conditions.

This is a crazy culture shock for me moving here because back home , this is like a necessity, Infact it’s as common as having a tv in your home …. Some houses install one in each section of the home

Couldn’t believe it when you said £2600 fully installed. Just bought a house without central heating just electric radiators quoted £10k to get boiler, pipes and radiators installed which includes taking up and relaying flooring think this might be the better way forward for heating with the added bonus it can also cool the house. Thanks for this informative video saying actual power consumption normally people don’t discuss figures in UK focused videos.

Will be interesting to see how it does with heating in the winter.

Gonna get a multisplit outdoor unit installed but only 1 indoor unit, then I can always add more indoor units as time goes by. helps massively if you can't afford the whole upfront cost of multiple room installs in one go. Great thing is also that the outdoor multisplit will be on the side of my house and the 3 rooms I really want to get done are literally on the same side of the house. The computer room (massive 4090 PC in there so it can get toasty), my wife's office room (smallest room in the house so again it gets toasty), and of course the down stairs living room (largest room in the house but its the room we spend most time in and its where our dog sleeps). All in the install should be pretty easy, my switch box indoor and outdoor are also on the same side of the house. Even though the worst of this heatwave is over I can't help but feel like each and every year its just getting worse.

I cant wait for mine to be installed. Been thinking about it for a couple of years but this week has been brutal and i've placed the order. Also looking forward to seeing how good it is in winter.

Trouble is with everyone wanting it makes room for cowboy installers. Research your installer peeps even if it costs a little more!

I had a Daikin system installed in April for the living room and main bedroom. Best few £k I've ever spent, and with solar panels it costs basically nothing to run, with no carbon emissions. Sleeping is absolute bliss. A no-brainer really.

Well done on an informative and interesting video. I learned a lot even though we already have some air con. Thank you. Our experience: We had our two units fitted 5 years ago, (made by LG) wife was ill and in her late 70s - so bedroom first. I was so impressed I very quickly got another slightly larger one fitted in the lounge. Total cost for both was about £1700. We have been really impressed and happy with our system, an absolute Godsend in the hot weather. The thing is, for the first couple of years we hardly used the heating function at all, but gradually this increased until last winter it was our main source of background heat, the electric bills have certainly increased a bit but by far less than I thought they would. One tip, always have the units wall mounted, if you let the installer stand them on the floor, they are a dirt trap nightmare, leaves/litter etc.. Thanks again. Andy
