The Last Seen
Episode 9: A Truth Wrapped in Love
Ada's eyes filled with shock.
She looked at Daniel, then at the little girl clutching her teddy bear.
"Daniel... who is she?"
Before Daniel could answer, the little girl smiled.
"My name is Sophie."
She pointed at Maya.
"My mommy says you're my auntie."
Ada blinked in confusion.
"Maya... your daughter?"
Maya nodded.
"Yes."
Daniel finally spoke.
"After everything that happened, Maya and I stayed in touchβnot because we were in a relationship, but because she had no family except Sophie. I helped them whenever I could."
Ada looked at Maya.
"So... Daniel isn't Sophie's father?"
Maya smiled softly.
"No. Sophie's father died before she was born. Daniel only helped us through some difficult times."
Ada let out a deep sigh of relief.
For the first time in weeks, the weight on her chest began to lift.
Just then, Ada's father walked into the room carrying a small wooden box.
"This," he said, "is the gift I mentioned in my letter."
He handed it to Ada.
Inside were old family photographs, a gold necklace that had belonged to Ada's late grandmother, and a folded document.
Ada opened it carefully.
It was a letter transferring ownership of a piece of family land into the names of both Ada and Maya.
"I spent years hiding the truth," her father said. "I won't let either of my daughters be treated differently again."
Maya burst into tears.
Without saying a word, Ada reached out and hugged her.
"We lost enough years already," Ada whispered.
"Let's not lose any more."
Daniel watched quietly from across the room.
He knew this wasn't the moment to ask for forgiveness.
Healing came first.
As everyone embraced, another knock sounded at the front door.
Ada opened it.
A man in a dark suit stood outside.
"Good evening," he said.
"I'm your family's lawyer."
He looked at Ada's father.
"I've come because someone has challenged the ownership of your family land in court."
The room fell silent once again.
To be continued...
