Hundreds of pro-Palestinian activists who were detained in Israel after their flotilla bringing symbolic aid to Gaza was intercepted have been deported, Israel has confirmed. It follows international backlash in response to a video posted by far-right National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir showing himself taunting activists kneeling with their hands tied behind their backs. There was rare criticism for Ben Gvir's actions from Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who said they were "not in line with Israel's values". More than 50 boats taking part in the Global Sumud Flotilla (GSF) set sail from Turkey last Thursday carrying a token amount of aid. Four hundred and thirty people from more than 40 countries were on board. Israel dismissed the action as a "PR stunt at the service of Hamas". Deporting people they kidnapped from international waters.
Technical note you can not deport people you took hostage from international waters
The language. Deported. Really. How about activist released.
Imagine what they do to the Palestinian when there are no cameras around
they werent detained, they were kidnapped in international waters. you lie. and are complicit in genocide..
Israel is beyond the pale.
Deported from international waters???? That’s a new one!
I think we should stop referring to these as 'pro-palestinian' activists and start referring to them as anti-genocide anti-apartheid pro-humanitarian activists.
This was done on purpose to warn any other flotilla protesters off. Meaningless 'apologies' are exactly that - meaningless. The Israeli government do what they like, when they like and to whom they like because they apparently can with impunity while cowardly western politicians and main media outlets go through the motions of wringing their hands playing dumb because, as Ben Gvir said on his video - which the BBC omitted - that they (Israel) are the masters.
Shame to this world
Any news on the Henry Nowark case??? What’s with the blackout??
Makes me so sick that the rest of the world's governments let this happen. How much blackmail do they have over you.
Is BBC still government funded?
keep lying
So the BBC is not reporting the sexual assaults and rape? Covering up Israel’s war crimes as usual.
How is the Parliament going to respond?
Why cover this particular story, BBC covers little regarding Israel's treatment of Palestinians
Deported? They were kidnapped in international waters in an act of flagrant piracy and TAKEN TO ISRAEL They were eventually released after having been subjected to abuse, NOT DEPORTED.
Why doesn't Israel just LET THEM GET TO GAZA - it would be a much quicker, cheaper and easier way to show them that all is not as it seems in the media with Gaza. STOP PROTECTING THEM FROM THEIR OWN BAD CHOICES, they are grown adults, they can learn for themselves.
Everyone in comments just remember this is BBC talking so take this with a pinch of salt
