Flotilla activists arrive in Turkey with torture marks following Israeli detention

“It's been, well, such humiliation, such beatings that no one can even imagine it, but for Palestine nothing is too much”. Global Sumud Flotilla activists arrived in Turkey on Thursday after being released from Israeli detention, with several participants alleging they suffered torture, humiliation, and violent beatings while in custody. Footage shared following their arrival showed a number of activists with visible bruising and injuries, as supporters welcomed them back. The flotilla, consisting of more than 50 boats carrying activists, medical supplies, food, and other humanitarian aid, was intercepted by Israeli forces near Cyprus on Tuesday as it attempted to sail towards Gaza. Organisers said the mission aimed to break Israel’s maritime blockade and draw attention to the humanitarian crisis in Gaza. Israeli authorities boarded the vessels before detaining those on board and transferring them into Israeli custody. Several activists have since described inhumane treatment during detention, claiming they were physically assaulted and denied basic rights. Support stories that matter.
