Australian flotilla activist describes abuse in Israeli detention at Sydney press conference

"I was beaten and that was just the beginning of four days of absolute hell. I've looked into the eyes of the most soulless people in the universe and nothing came back.” Australian activists on the Global Sumud Flotilla described their experience in Israeli detention as they arrived in Sydney, Australia. One activist, Juliet Lamont, details being beaten, dragged and tied up following her abduction by Israeli forces. The activists called on Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese to end their country’s relationship  with Israel. The flotilla, consisting of more than 50 boats carrying activists, medical supplies, food, and other humanitarian aid, was intercepted by Israeli forces near Cyprus on Tuesday as it attempted to sail towards Gaza. Organisers said the mission aimed to break Israel’s maritime blockade and draw attention to the humanitarian crisis in Gaza. Israeli authorities boarded the vessels before detaining those on board and transferring them into Israeli custody. Several activists have since described inhumane treatment during detention, claiming they were physically assaulted and denied basic rights. Support stories that matter.
