I’d say this is about right! We spent $15,000 on an 8 night trip to Maui for 2 people in September 2025. $7,200 for hotel (7 nights at Four Seasons and 1 night at Hana-Maui), $2,300 for flights (first class upgrade on return flight), $4,700 for trip expenses (food/shopping), $315 for a rental car to drive road to Hana (convertible), and $500 to board our dog while we were away. We spared no expense and had a great trip. Hope this helps!
It's so weird to see you guys INDOORS!
I just purchased your Maui Itinerary. It's so packed with information. We've been planning a long time for this trip and can't wait. We're saving by using points and miles. When we travel, we always grocery shop and eat breakfast and lunch in, so that we're able to enjoy a nice dinner.
We love the the Big Island. We love Maui but Kona is our happy place and are there right now. We got three direct round trip flights for $350 each from SLC to Kona. We are staying at $250 per night in the South Kohala district. We like it because we get access to the Mauna Lani beach club. We have a minivan at $50 per day. We do everything for free. And we get to pack two suitcases per person at 70 lbs each so we bring our food. We buy milk, eggs, butter, and water and just go out and have fun.
These are the most accurate numbers I’ve ever seen on a travel channel for a trip to Maui or just a trip in general. Thank you for showing the truth! We stayed 7 days at the Grand Wailea for 4 and it was 20k, last year got an Airbnb for 1 week in Kaanapali for 4 and it was 10k.
$300 flight from California, few hundred for a weekly rental car, Hyatt/Marriott points for the hotel, and few hundred for food.
We went last May and spent about $9K for 2 adults and 1 kid. That includes flight, hotel (Honua Kai) and jeep rental. It was a 9 day trip. Going again this May, and budgeting about the same. Much cheaper if you avoid the more expensive summer months, and less crowded which is a plus!
Book the flights on miles and the hotel on points and then it’s really up to you on how fancy you want the dinners to be! Have repeated that over and over and it is magical every time we get to do it!
My wife and I have traveled to Maui annually since 2020. The first trip was only $3,200 for 6 days for everything. Our upcoming trip will be around $9,000 for 9 days including everything. Our trips now average out to $1,000/day in total cost.
Awesome video!! #1 shoulder season, shoulder season, shoulder season, if you can this is the way #2 VRBO, all day long......I don't need a fancy room, just a spot to set my stuff and a place to sleep.......a kitchenette is a bonus #3 this is a personal preference, but we grocery shop when we land. We purchase snacks, drinks and breakfast (until we hit Hana Farms for banana bread). Our rule is one meal out a day and it is usually dinner after a long day of activities #4 shopping, we buy local as a rule. Maui small business owners in my experience are the best!!! #5 have fun!!!
We’re actually doing Maui this December and kind of mixing “budget + splurge” which might help people planning. One of our favorite ways to save is using RedWeek for timeshares. We plan our trip around availability instead of locking dates first. For example, Marriott’s Maui Ocean Club can easily run around $5,000 for a week on the lower end, but we found a full week on RedWeek for about $2,600. That alone cuts the trip cost in half. From there we’re mixing in shorter stays at nicer spots: • 1 night at Hana Maui Resort in an oceanfront bungalow (doing Road to Hana and just enjoying the experience) • 1 night at Napili Shores for something more low-key and local feeling • Ending with 3 nights at Grand Wailea as the “splurge” portion So overall we’re not going full luxury the entire time, but not going budget either. It’s more about being strategic. Save big on the longer stay, then spend where it actually adds to the experience. Curious if anyone else mixes their trips like this instead of staying in one place the whole time?
6 nights for marriage proposal spent about $4000 flight beachfront Airbnb and rental for 2
Comment on where you like to save and where you splurge on a trip to Maui! Mahalo for watching this big Maui budget video. Let us know if we should do cost videos for the other islands, or just stop right here with this topic.
We splurged on the helicopter tour- $1000. It was a bucket list activity for my husband and totally worth it. If we go back i don't know if we'd do another one
13 days in April/May 2025 was $11,000 for 2 people. Two days on Oahu and remaining on Maui (including an AWESOME dinner at Momma’s Fish House).
We actually got by with 8K for a family of 6 for 7 days (airfare, condo, rental car) and one snorkel trip. Condo was amazing!! It felt huge and had the best view of the ocean. We did miss out on restaurants and shopped at Costco and then splurged on the road to Hāna (stopping at a lot of the food vendors). We did not skip out on the coffee though, that we preplanned in our budget and enjoyed several local shops.
Booked 8 days/7 nights in Kehei next month for our honeymoon. Condo at Kam Sands right across the street from Kamaole beach #3 Round trip direct flights from SFO to OGG and back. Rental car for 8 days. Costco travel bundle pack FTW! Total cost is $3,300 and booked everything in January. Obviously we still have to pay for food, drinks, souvenirs, activities etc. Booked a helicopter tour and a catamaran cruise and have reservations at Mama’s Fish House. Our budget is around $7K and I think we’ll be fine. We live in Napa so a couple hundred bucks for a nice meal is standard for us. Hope they can recover from the recent storms/flooding soon but regardless we’ll be there spending some money to help out the community. MAUI OR BUST 2026!
$6,000-$7000 for 3 people one week we stay at Westin Maui resort back in December before Christmas
We did a trip for about 14 days on Oahu and Maui in 2024 (watched your videos for tips). We estimated to about 12000$ (canadian) for a family of 4 . We did not really skimp on the pleasures but did some simple tips. In Maui, we did rent a condo (about 350$ US a night for a nice one). Hotels are really pricey. Went shopping in local stores and made some lunches and breakfast at home. Big saver. Rent a car and go visit the beach, the sundown on the volcano is basically free or really cheap. We did the Hana road with our car (and survived). And ate a lot in food trucks, its basically high end restaurant quality for a small price... but dont skip maui Brewery... so good and pretty. Another good tips is your videos, we had a nice list of things to do that we could do on our own and skip the tours fees. I am sure we didn't do everything there but we loved it nonetheless... priceless memories
The median income for a US worker is $48k. This means that for most Americans a vacation to Hawaii is completely out of range. The American "vacation" is now tailored to the top end of the income scale.
