Power banks to the rescue.
I like to wait at an empty gate, so I can have a free outlet. But I also carry two power banks and four retractable charging cords. I will never not have the ability to charge my devices. 😂
Technically as others have indicated, if its not labelled as a public charging point, you could be charged with the theft of electricity (pun intended). A power bank is a safer option

Never leave your hotel for the airport without a fully charged phone. Then only use your phone sparingly and turn off phone during flight .

I have three must dos before heading to the airport. 1. Make sure phone is charged. 2. If for some reason, I couldn't charge my phone at home, it definitely goes on the charger in the car - bonus is that car charging is a lot quicker. 3. POWER BANKS!!!! I try to have two in my personal item bag every time I travel and those get charged the night before I leave for a trip. The last time I needed th charge my phone in an airport was 12 years ago and I plunked down the $100 US for a power bank before they were commonplace. I didn't even know they existed but I spent the day at Walt Disney World with a friend (we're locals) and my phone was dying. She offered to charge it with her powerbank and it was a game changer. Now there are awesome ones that charge my earbuds, apple watch, my phone and my husband's iPad.
