Self inflating seat cushion by Teton Sports. It is about 15x12 inches. Self inflates with valve and is designed as a sitting mat for a tent. I fly to Asia a lot, 12-14 hour flights. I'd give up clothes before this. I've had it 4 years and still great. I weigh 160. Husband, at 210, has used it when tent camping. Rolls up and packs to about the size of 2 glasses cases. together into a carrying sleeve. Happy tailbone!
One thing I always do when going through security is to count the number of grey bins I use. That way I don't accidentally walk off without all of my things.
I definitely use pouches, they’re so helpful for organizing what you need to bring. One of my tips is I usually have a couple extra ziplock bags but if we bring food (like a bag for breakfast or some snacks for the kids) I always use a ziplock bag which then becomes a trash bag. I’m usually flying with my kids so it’s always good to have a trash bag or two!

I put things on my bed and group what will be needed. Then when I pack things that are essential go in extra crossbody bag. That way there is no searching
I definitely like the idea of thinking in zones and uses for the items in my bag. I typically put everything in there just to make it fit, rather than thinking about how I will use it during the flight.

On my flight last week, my bag was really full so i put my knitting project in one pocket & scarf, hat & gloves in the other for easy access when i was waiting for the train in -10 celcius.
This is how I pack and it makes flying a lot less stressful! I use a sleeping pillow that you can fill with things, so I put a few clothing items there and a pouch with my most used items. My tip is that anything that I won't need during the flight goes in the carry-on, not my personal bag.

My backpack for my Alaska cruise flight was a 38L packed to the gills and sinched as much as possible with the straps. It fit great under delta seat on way there in a 2 row, but on way back in a 3 row middle seat it was more of a struggle going under seat
I use my passport cover to hold my passport at home. I keep my TSA and Global access cards with it. When I travel I leave the case at home since it fits more easily in my luggage pocket and purse. You always have to take it out of the cover anyway. 😊
Laurie, your "junk drawer" description describes my personal item bag. My purse is the Bermuda Triangle, so I guess that I'm used to it.
