Yurlu | Country - Impact Days 2026 #film #cinema #impact
Discover the incredible story of YURLU⎜COUNTRY, an impact documentary by Yaara Bou Melhem 💥 This documentary focuses on the Wittenoom asbestos mine, considered Australia’s Chernobyl. Operated by multinational corporations with no regard for the Aboriginal communities who are the traditional owners of the land, more than three million tonnes of waste were dumped over 60 years ago, poisoning both the land and the Aboriginal people, in violation of their rights. Presented at #ImpactDays in 2025, the project has since travelled around the world and launched a large-scale impact campaign led by the Banjima people to #CleanUpWittenoom. YURLU⎜COUNTRY returned to the FIFDH this year in the Focus competition and was the subject of an Impact Spotlight discussion. On this occasion, we had the honour of welcoming the director and Johnnell Parker, Vice-President of the Banjima Native Title Aboriginal Corporation. 🤝 Impact Days connects impact‑driven filmmakers with aligned organisations, policymakers, and funders in International Geneva — and beyond! 🔗 Contribute to the Banjima people’s campaign #CleanUpWittenoom: www.cleanupwittenoom.com CREDITS Editing: Julie Bellard & Théo Laglisse Music: Moon Dino Animation: Fabien Jupille Graphism: studiobad.ch
