CKO, short documentary video, Slovakia

Center for Community Organizing (CKO) works in Slovakia to strengthen civic engagement, community leadership, and democratic participation. Since 1999, the organisation has supported people and communities in becoming active participants in decisions that affect their lives. CKO’s work is rooted in local realities. Through community organising, human rights education, advocacy, and initiatives focused on preventing extremism and radicalisation, the organisation helps create space for voices that are often overlooked in public debate. Its activities are closely connected to questions of Roma history, local memory, exclusion, and antigypsyism. By working with communities, educators, civic actors, and local leaders, CKO helps make visible the links between historical marginalisation and present-day discrimination. The organisation’s work shows why meaningful responses to prejudice must be grounded in both evidence and lived experience. Community stories, local knowledge, and civic participation are essential for understanding how exclusion works — and for building more inclusive, democratic societies.
