Social media is not the cause. Speaking as a child of the 1960's, I also spent most of my life full of those far left ideas. But plenty of books and TV of that era were full of nihilism, anti-human, anti-westernism ideas. Look up The Red Brigades, Badaer Menheif gang etc. I read books in the 1970's saying that evil human industry would devestate the planet by 2000. The problem is getting so stuck on one side of the story, you are completely oblivious to the other half. It's what she describes now and it was the same for some born 60 years ago. A circle of friends who wanted the downfall of western civilisation, as we believed it was uniquely evil and all other cultures were superior. Some did eventually move on (we grew up!), others are the old people you see going mental for Extinction rebellion and Palestine. The point is , don't blame social media, these ideas have been building for decades.

I was so naive! Girlie laughs. Do these people realize how harmful these radical ideologies have been to the society? This groupthink has led to Germany being an energy hostage. I’m not even talking about the cancel culture and DEI normalization in companies. And after all this they will just laugh it out while moving to the next socially acceptable grift.

I love how everyone thinks these things are so "new", "now", "recent", etc. The explosion of the internet has certainly increased the scope & extreme nature of these movements. But it's nothing new really. Leftism, extremism, environmentalism, etc. They've all been around a long long time.

Climate activists live in their own reality and it always feels like they are steered from the back seat, because they are unable to grasp simple concepts like industry or material science. Nuclear is the only chance we got to get away from fossil fuels.

Every generation thinks the last one was full of idiots and they’re the enlightened ones- then life comes at you fast. Issue is that hubris gets amplified today on SM for a number of reasons. I pray that future generations wake up to this phenomenon and learn humility , then again we as humans never really learn anything
