Greta Thunberg condemns Israel’s illegal interception of Gaza flotilla and detentions
Human rights activist Greta Thunberg has condemned Israel’s illegal interception of more than 20 civilian vessels from the Global Flotilla in international waters, saying around 200 participants were taken over 1,000 kilometres from Gaza during the operation. In a video statement, she said many of those detained were later released in Crete after being injured, with some requiring hospital treatment, and described coordination between Israeli and Greek authorities. She said at least two activists remain in Israeli custody after being forcibly taken to Israel, where she stated they are being tortured, and that they are being held on fabricated accusations linked to their Palestine solidarity activism. Thunberg called for their immediate release and said their detention reflects broader practices against Palestinians held without charge. She urged Sweden, Spain and Brazil to intervene, and called on the international community to act urgently. Support stories that matter.
