When I came to London in 70,s I work as a manicurist in barber shop there. every day after afternoon tea the left overs were brought to the cantin next door, I useto gorge on those...those were the days...it was also affordable to bring my family for tea there when they visited me...

A great question to end with. Personally I’d have scored The Dorchester lower than you did - I’d have knocked a point off for the server. The atmosphere and setting are clearly superior , as is the quality of the individual ingredients. I think for most of the high end afternoon teas you are paying for the experience overall, not just the food. If I wanted a cheap afternoon tea, I’d be having it at home: the Slug and Lettuce one looked depressing and there was no sense of occasion. I love watching your afternoon tea reviews!
I'd never had a posh afternoon tea before but we went to the Dorchester for afternoon tea last year and we had a wonderful time. I disagree with you about the service, we had a very attentive server, they explained all the tea's, what was in the sandwiches and cakes, my friends has prosecco and I had a berry spritzer, this was inclusive of our tea, we had as much tea as we could drink all inclusive and the food was delicious, I wouldn't fault anything. Your experience was nothing like mine, maybe we had different packages. The Slug where I come from definitely does not do afternoon tea lmao.

I love the fact that you do such a variety of reviews and commentary! My wife and I were in London two years ago and a traditional tea was on our list (we live in Austin now but originally from California). We were staying in the City of London, so we walked across the Millenium Bridge to Swan London. My wife eats Gluten Free and they had options that could easily accomodate her. Not being avid tea drinkers, we each chose some random teas and enjoyed them all. We also had a glass of champagne each because...vacation! The towers arrived and they were gorgeous, with a great variety of traditional sandwiches, scones and deserts. I forget what the total bill was because...vacation! I do remember that we didn't have to go out for dinner that evening because we still full!
