I’ve just disembarked a luxury five-star cruise which has changed the way I think about cruising forever. Even though I’ve been cruising since I was a child, on this cruise I saw and did things I’ve never experienced before and never expected to. I usually cruise with budget and mainstream cruise lines, normally in the cheapest inside or oceanview cabins to keep the cost as low as possible. I’m very used to sharing cruise ships with thousands of other guests so this experience on a small luxury cruise ship really was a shock. 7 years ago I was able to visit a Viking ship very briefly and ever since then it has been top of my bucket list to get back onboard for a real cruise. I did wonder if I had built up the experience too much in my mind and that the reality would be disappointing, but in those 7 years I’d never found a cruise that I could afford anyway so it always remained a pipe dream. It was an unanswered question. I just couldn’t let this dream go though so what I decided to do was to head to Vikings website and to sort every cruise for the next 3 years, in the entire world, by price, low to high. The date didn’t matter, the destination didn’t matter, the only thing I cared about was the price. I just wanted to be onboard. When I saw that the cheapest cruise was a 7 night cruise over the 2025 new year in the Mediterranean. I was very happy. This cruise is a introverts dream. Quiet, peaceful, and everyone keeps to themselves. Viking should advertise to this demographic. A guaranteed win for them. As a introvert with disposable income, sign me up. Boring is my 9 to 5.

Emma has become one of those podcasters whose topic is not especially interesting to me, but I watch because she's a pleasant, engaging person to spend time with. Maybe it's an American's Anglophilia, but I find those people are usually British. Biscuits, anyone (or is it cookies?). 😀
The moral is take one quality cruise a year instead of several cheap rubbish ones

Not being hassled constantly for upgrades etc would make it worthwhile for me. Not to mention not being smothered by bodies everywhere you go and having to fight for seating.

I went by myself on Viking last July. I was very apprehensive being a bit younger than most of the guests but it exceeded all my expectations. It was so quiet you could hear people turning the pages of their books. The food was top-notch, especially in the World Cafe. After 50 cruises I feel like I’ve found my niche. It is assuredly not for everyone, but I loved it enough to book two more cruise while onboard. Thank you Emma for all your fantastic videos, you are the best
I like how your format doesn't force you to manufacture some things to complain about. I've noticed most reviewers have the "I'll share the good, the bad..." while your format is just, "I went over there and this is how that went"
Viking's core customer base is American retirees, so I'm not surprised that most of the passengers were from the U.S.

Viking has a FREE launderette on each floor! We came home with all our luggage items clean. 😂 Also, every room having a balcony is nice
I was somewhat amused that you thought that somehow you would not fit in and that people around you would think you so bourgeois. You would grace any social setting.

An actual Norway-flagged ship. Nice! One reason why the cruise is expensive but you'll know the salaries and working conditions of the crew are much better compared to "flag of convenience" ships.
We sailed 28 straight days on Viking last fall, from Athens to Ft. Lauderdale, and we loved it. When we boarded at Athens, I thought we must be in the wrong place and must be doing something wrong because we just waltzed right through security and onto the ship with no lines at all. The bird and water noises in the public toilets was hilariously charming. The upscale touches were lovely, and we appreciated that nothing was crowded or loud. Some of the free excursions were rather so-so, but the free wifi and free room service more than made up for that! And, yes, there were free cookies and muffins!
