So it's more like Psychological Projection, but for Competency? Basically assuming that everyone else is similar to your level of competency rather than significantly better or worse, or at least that you are a reasonable benchmark to work off of?
If I've understood it correctly the actual DK effect is professionals starting to make more mistakes after the first 100-300 hours in the field.
This happens quite a bit in churches. People with a shallow knowledge of the Bible will go ahead and challenge scholars and don't enter the conversation as though they have much to learn, but rather as though they have cornered the market on Bible knowledge and truth. So, a humble attitude works wonders in all fields of study.

This is really interesting to know. I was taught the Dunning Kruger effect was something VERY different by my psychology teacher. My psychology teacher said the Dunning Kruger effect was when someone believed they were immune to something because they were "too smart to fall for it"
