He does eat organic food - it's just that those food items have more metal in them than human food does. It is told in the book that Eridians share a lot of similarities with Humans and may in fact be (SPOILERS) life seeded by the same ancestor of the astrophage. The major difference is that they have a lot of metals, both in their body composition and the food they eat. It is because of the similarities in some proteins and minerals in both species' food, that the Eridians are ultimately able to make some form of edible drink and food for Grace when he lives on Erid. So yeah, he does eat meat.

That's not the case regarding what they eat or their composition. There's nothing in the book that says he eats minerals . In fact it sounds like a creature he's eating. Also though his appearance is Rock like we are not told he's made of rock material and has no water in his system. Read the book

In the book Rocky does get water but he gets all his water from his food also he’s a carnivore and apex predator Rocky (and grace) has a theory that humans and eridians are related (Grace said the trees outside his house are closer to him then Rocky) and an astrophage ancestor seeded Adrian, earth, and eridians with life a long time ago

One of the key differences between book and movie is the attitude towards eating. I get why they changed it for the movie; it wasn’t a major plot point. But it is I think the one major deviation from the book. Which is awesome! For that to be the the thing is t even even a concern.
