No they are not advance enough rocky almost died because of thier lack of knowledge of radiation and they somewhat lack in automated system they somewhat do it manually since eridians is practically immortal compare to human lifespan.

It's actually amazing at how much this short gets wrong in only 60 seconds. There IS meat, there IS waste, and there IS organic material. Creatures in his world form hard outre shells, like crustaceans form hard inedible shells on our world. It actually goes into great detail how he crushes his food, to remove the edible meat from the inedible shells, then mashes up the meat externally since he doesn't have a mouth. Then an opening in his shell opens, simultaneously exposing his meaty-bits as he expells waste to make room for the refreshed food. And since his meaty bits are expelled while the opening is open, he brings his internal temp WAY up (like an autoclave) to assure he doesn't get an infection... and this increased temp means an increased energy usage, and he gets sleepy after he eats.

One of the key differences between book and movie is the attitude towards eating. I get why they changed it for the movie; it wasn’t a major plot point. But it is I think the one major deviation from the book. Which is awesome! For that to be the the thing is t even even a concern.
