Should the Leafs take Gavin McKenna first overall?

As a Sharks fan, I do not want Matthews. Much rather we continue to do our own thing and build around our own prospects

It's pretty suspicious that everyone stopped singing McKenna's praises the moment the Leafs got the number 1 pick. Before that, it was McKenna Mania, but now we have hot takes about how he doesn't generate enough xG Per 2nd Period At Home On Tuesdays Against Left Handed Right Defenseman From The Left Side Of The Right Faceoff Dot or something. I'm a Canes fan and I still find that suspicious.

If McKenna hits and we didn't pick him we will all self immolate, I'll stand by this even if he's not as incredibly as can be

Maybe Mathews looks at what Tavares did and says I'd like to do the same .

I get that Shane Wright is not anything close to McKenna but I remember the hissy fits when some even suggested that Montreal might not pick him. Turned out pretty good for Montreal.

Mckenna makes sense, but look at the oilers they arguably have the greatest player today on the team but the defense often looks like a soggy napkin.

If they don’t draft McKenna, leafs fans can take solace in the fact that you have absolutely no chance of signing him long term anyway. No one wants to play for that toxic market.

As a Sharks' fans, we would rather go with our own 'might be' then someone elses 'has been'

I still say that Ivar Stenberg is the best pick for the Leafs to make. He's just an overall better well-rounded player who can come in and help you right now

Let’s say his ceiling is Kucherov, does that add something that turns around the franchise in lieu of having a number 1 defenceman? The Leafs must find a #1 defenseman in this draft because they won’t have the opportunity for at least 2 more years if they use this one on another winger.

He had a home team in AZ that he never wanted to play for, being born in CA isn't going to be the thing that makes him want to go play in SJ. More likely the fact that SJ will probably be a playoff team next year is more of a motivation
