Military field training is so physically and mentally brutal that soldiers are routinely kept awake for 48 hours straight. At that level of exhaustion, comfort becomes irrelevant. Dignity becomes irrelevant. Sleep is the only thing that matters. So when this soldier disappeared for a few minutes, his friend went looking — and found him fast asleep, sitting upright on a toilet seat. In military slang, this is called Skating. When a soldier needs to escape work, avoid orders, or simply steal a few minutes of peace, he uses the bathroom as his excuse. You would be surprised at how warm a porta-potty can be when you've been out in the field for days during Winter.
As someone who just got out of the army, they do NOT keep you up for 48 hours straight, even out in the field.
Depriving people from sleep is torture.
The saddest thing out of this is that they don't get what they deserve after getting out
As retired Navy, we’ve been up 72 hrs at sea back in the day. For real.
Imagine one person wasn’t asleep and was actually shitting and he opened the door 😭😭😭
Napping on the toilet is very common in the military. You catch a nap when you can. Sometimes you got to go day or two awake.
I remember falling asleep with my eyes open out of fear of my drill sergeant. My buddy told me I was snoring eyes open
