Was Europe not invaded by the muslim forces? They had been conquering lands reaching Spain and southern France. That’s a pretty vital reason for the fighting in the first place. The whole 'excusing the invasion by the muslim armies as just innocent tickles and kisses’ thing is extremely frustrating. The actions of the crusaders got excessive and the whole ‘fight, and you go straight to Heaven’ lie are wrong, but this narrative people give now-a-days that the first crusades were just greedy, bloodthirsty, evil Christians slaughtering and conquering just to be dicks is bullshit. I agree the fact of both sides doing bad shit, but why are the muslims seen as victims just because they lost this one? They were invading for centuries, into Europe after the near east. Why is it Europe defending themselves just ignored and underplayed?

I love how you manage to remove the boredom from learning about the world's history. Residing in Italy, it's cool to be able to revisit some of this information by being able to actually see some of these locations in person. Btw, Piacenza is pronounced more like Pia-chen-za. I've had to tell my local friends "It's spelled like this..." when saying a town name or literally anything in Italian I'm unfamiliar with and they look confused. Thankfully they're all chill and patient with my own lack of knowledge. lol

The Crusades were 1000% justified.
For a history podcast, I'm extremely disappointed in the lack of acknowledgement concerning the 700 years of Islamic aggression which completely justified the crusades. To chalk it up to "greed" is asinine. The greed was 700 years of forced conversion, enslavement, subjugation, occupation, and frankly, death. The crusades were a legitimate response.
