Why on earth would airlines "hope you never discover" these so-called luggage hacks? That's ridiculous. Lost or damaged luggage is obviously a headache and an expense for airlines. If passengers can help prevent their items from getting lost, that's *good* for airlines. Every travel tip doesn't have to fall into the silly "they don't want you to know!" category.

In San Francisco I caught a luggage thief taking my luggage… when I yelled out, he let my luggage go and went right to another baggage carousel from a different airline to wait for more luggage. ALWAYS go quickly to get your luggage. No bathroom stops until you get your luggage…

It's not the airlines that lose the bags. It's the airport crews. Also you should remove old flight destination tags from Bali or wherever. If you still have one on from a former flight, it confuses the belt computers.

As a long time traveler, I found that attaching a brightly colored, shiny colored ribbon to each luggage handle keeps people from grabbing the wrong bag on the baggage carousel. And when you're getting off the airport shuttle bus. Make your luggage unique and easily spotted.

Delta lost my luggage, even though I had an AirTag in it that showed my bag was at the airport, they could not find it. The AirTag tracking was intermittent, but always showed somewhere at the airport until several weeks later the AirTag showed up at a location 8 miles away from the airport, and no further response. I went to the location, it was a closed business that happened to be next door to a garbage collection center, not a trace of my luggage or the AirTag. All this information was shared with Delta and finally after 2 months Delta sent me a check that covered about half of my losses, despite Delta's stated policy of resolving lost luggage within 30 days.

Why would the Airlines not want you to get your bag? Your premise that the airlines don’t want you to know these tips make no sense.

If you fly Alaska/Hawaiian Airlines or one of these international airlines; Lufthansa, KLM, Qatar Airways, Icelandair, Austrian Airlines, and Aegean Airlines, you can purchase an electronic bag tag. You download your digital bag tag onto the device that attaches to the handle of your luggage, when you arrive at your destination and have retrieved your checked bag, you erase that information and then download the new information for your return flight. It eliminates the need to stop and print out a paper tag because you can go straight to bag drop and you don’t have to worry about the paper one tearing off. I used mine for the first time at the end of April and it made check in at the airport really fast and easy.

5:05 “Using special keys only they posses” How naive! 😁

For me, even though I have a digital boarding pass, I will always print out a boarding pass (backup). I will also stick the sticker for my luggage on the back of my final boarding pass, also snap a pic as backup. It helped immensely as I experienced a lost luggage. In the end it was easily recovered thanks to that small tracking sticker that I stuck on the back of my boarding pass.

To me, the only reason that people would leave old baggage tags on their luggage's, it's because they want others to know that they've traveled and visited many places! I've traveled extensively, and that's something I have NEVER done and will NEVER do! It's idiotic! Each time that I've traveled and arrived at my destination, I've taken off those baggage tags! If I want souvenirs, I'll buy them from the places that I've visited, but I'll certainly NOT leave old baggage tags on my luggage! I've learned in the future to make a list of everything that I'm packing, take pictures of my belongings, and also take pictures of my luggage on all sides. In case of any damages to my luggage, I'll have proof that it was in good condition when checked in. That's a very good idea, and this was an excellent video. Thank you🙏

Best way to handle bags is to go carry-on only. As a regular US domestic and multi-week international traveler I'm always confused by the huge checked luggage that people feel they need to bring. I've found it to be totally unnecessary. I travel with a 21" carry on and business backpack only, regardless of the length of the trip 🤷‍♂. It is possible and really saves me a lot of time bypassing the luggage process.

It is unwise to believe that thieves have no access to TSA keys.

Never put expensive cameras in checked baggage. Always put a camera in a carry-on or personal item bag.

Its always amazed me at the care the airlines take to weigh and log your bag in but at the other end, the bags just tumble onto a convey belt and you just take your bag or anyone elses bag without scrutiny.

Hard-shell suitcases with ZIPPERS are silly! The zipper is a weak spot easily broken into by thieves (as this shows) or can burst when bag is dropped. And while zip ties will, if gone, let you know your bag's been opened, but they don't stop that. Use instead the old-fashioned Samsonite-style hardshell suitcases with metal-to-metal closures (no zippers!).

i spraypainted some stencils on my bag to make it unique and easy to find. and unlike putinjg on ribbons the paint won't get stuck on belts

Zip ties on the zipper are no good if someone pokes a pen in halfway around your case, or if TSA agents open your case. You can be sure that bag thieves have clippers for them, too.

TSA approved whatever has no meaning in Europe or elsewhere outside the US.
