How to Take Advantage of the Airline Carry-On Loophole No One Talks About

I would caution against putting your 3rd bag inside your carry-on in case you have to gate check it. I always make sure my 3rd bag can fit in my personal bag. 😉

I’ve always done this. I stuff my purse into my personal item bag (usually a Nomad Lane bento). I thought everyone does this😂

I saw the title and thought there really was a loophole I could jump on 😂 I’ve been a “carry-on only” traveler for over 15 years and always do this. I also include a packable tote or duffle just in case I shop and need to check my carryon 😊 As always love your videos ❤

I use my scotti vest as a third "bag" . no questions, 30 mostly large pockets, removable sleeves, and , in an emergency where the plane must be evacuated, you can wear your vest with all your important tech and documents. I do keep a collapsable small backpack or other sling type bag empty in my carry on for when i arrive and am out and about, tho the scotti vest will work for that, too, and is virtually theft proof.

I have been using this 3rd bag “trick” for a few years. One thing that makes it easier is using a 3rd bag that doesn’t have a boxed or structured bottom. A bag that’s less structured will fit more easily into your second bag.

I grew up with a mother who was a genius packer. She travelled alone by air with 3 and then 4 small children, staying with my grandmother for 6 weeks; I’m 78 and have flown since about age 5. We needed a wide variety of outfits, outdoor play, horseback riding, nice church dresses for my sister and I, outfits for the boys. In those early days girls wore big petticoats, patent leather shoes, purses,gloves. I watched her roll petticoats into small sausages to be stuffed into something, stuff socks and underwear into shoes to save space and prevent crushing, etc. And I don’t remember her having more than a few large bags. (She had a lot to watch, with small bodies and luggage!) Great lessons in packing - and in housekeeping as well.

I have become a minimalist packer . I pack in a backpack only , I buy my toiletries at my destination, never pack the what if’s. I pack only 4 outfits that are interchangeable and 3 layering pieces 2 that I wear on the plane. I’ve traveled to the EU for 30 days and survived and had a great time and didn’t miss a single thing. I got to shop and try new products and found they are better than the US ones. So I don’t have to worry about my day bag that holds all the important things. All the things you think you need for a long flight ✈️ you don’t need them in fact you never touch them and then your stuck carrying them around your whole trip, save the room for souvenirs.

I LOVE the black nylon Lo & Sons personal bag. It's so much roomier than it looks and I've traveled with it for YEARS and it never ages

For the tote bag as personal bag, find (or make) a simple drawstring bag that is the size of the tote. Put the drawstring bag into the tote then fill with your stuff, tighten the string and all your stuff stays put until you want it.

Just consider the '3rd' bag like a packing cube. A very important packing cube.

I have three ScottEVests - a vest, a light windbreaker, and a trench styled coat. Each item has at least 15 pockets. Those pockets store my glasses, passport, ID, money, phone, keys, make-up, and more. I feel safe from pickpockets. It would be useful if there is a plane emergency and we have to leave in a hurry and are instructed to leave your bags/suitcases. Very comfortable and well-made.

I use a small baggalini crossbody daily as my purse. It goes into my beis mini weekender as my personal item bag. I also usually pack a packable backpack into my carry-on for hiking, beach day, theme park day, etc.

I do this as well. I keep all these small essentials in a small crossbody purse, wearing the purse through the airport, and placing into the backpack I use as a personal item before entering the aircraft. Easy to locate anything I need while in the airport, on the aircraft, and once we have arrived at our destination.

This is a great tip! I started doing this bag-within-a-bag about 25 years ago and it works great! These days I use a waist pack (can be used as a cross-body) that easily fits inside my personal item which is a zippered tote that slides onto the handle of my rolling carry-on. I also feel that it reduces anxiety to know my ID and important personal items are on my person when travelling.❤❤

I use the slash proof Pac safe. As a solo lady traveler, I'm always thinking safety. Great channel

If only I wasn't 6 feet tall😂. I need that under seat space for my feet, but I generally just move the personal item bag to behind my legs after takeoff.

For my 3rd bag/purse I use the Travelon Anti-Theft Small Crossbody Purse. It has the slash resistant straps, RFID slots for credit cards and good organization pockets. I love it. I also put it into my personal item bad.
