You dont even have to buy anything from duty free. Just ask to buy the bag. I did it on my trip through europe with Ryanair. Works like a charm
Please don't suggest that people leave items lying around unattended, not anywhere but especially not in an airport!
I was a FA and can tell you this doesn’t always work. I was coming home from LAS probably 10 years ago on AA. I bought some items in duty free and the gate agent asked to see if it was food/consumable. Unfortunately it wasn’t and they said if I couldn’t fit it in my carry on it couldn’t go. So don’t count on this to work all the time.
I worked at an airline. Do not leave a bag unattended in an airport. You could cause a major problem.
Now the airlines know your travel hack.
Aug 2024 - the airlines are recently famously cracking down on size/weight and what is and is not considered extra personal item. Please make this video again in a few months, you might have something different to report.
Airlines are cracking down on "hacks." Neck pillows, regular pillows and shopping bags are being charged as extra items. Just pack less garbage overall. Or, ship your stuff to your destination.
I just want to say that I just hope not all the passengers do this at the same time and same flight, as it will be dangerous
The airlines are starting to check what is in the duty free bsgs. We were at Alicante airport 6 weeks ago and a woman had a duty free bag stuffed with clothes. The gate person told her she had to put the contents into her rucksack because she was only allowed to put the items she bought in duty free in her duty free bag.
When there’s no space in the bins above the seats for the carryon included in your ticket price, it’s because of these guys.
As long as you stick to placing only one bag in the overhead bin, otherwise you're just being selfish.
Put layers of clothes on especially a coat and heaviest shoes. Fill pockets with heavy stuff then you won't need a polly bag as you will have room to pack.
On my flight home from Japan last September, I sat next to a woman who went ham during her layover and (presumably) bought several bags' worth of duty free goods. She filled the entire overhead compartment, meant for two people, with her shopping bags. I had to stow my single bag elsewhere. She must have seen your video and thought it was a GREAT IDEA.
It’s dangerous to leave your plastic bag unattended for a while check in unless you know the person next to you on the bench chair.
I am working as a flight attendant. There ist a reason why only one carry on bag is permitted. The space in the overhead compartments is limited. Too much bags in the cabin cause delay and problems to stow everything safely. Safety comes first. The passengers get angry and complain about not enough space and the delay. And I have to find a solution, have to apologize even if IT IS NOT our fault, that there is too much luggage in the cabin and I get yelled and shouted at and get home late because of the delay. Please don't do that.😢🙏
I already tried That plastic bag hack before, and surprisingly it worked.😂
I was on a flight where they required you to check duty free bags at the boarding gate
Some airlines are starting to crack down on this though, and will consider even a bag like that as your personal item, and this is not limited to the ultra cheap airlines either, as many of the mid-range airlines are also doing the same, to try to squeeze every penny out of you. The only hack that I think still works is to carry things on you (in jacket pockets) as they will NOT count what you are wearing and I've used this hack many times (some people find it strange that I'd be wearing a jacket on a flight when it's 70 degrees outside).
As a Filipino myself I’m shocked at learning there is a Filipino chocolate bar
Great tip! I use a bag for my snacks, books and crocheting. When I do...usually not a fuss. 👍
