I mean I wouldn't announce that you're solo traveling while walking thru a hotel lobby. Anyone can be in a hotel lobby and now they all know you're traveling alone

The bring-your-own door lock is one of the most important items for solo travelers, esp females. Fact - bad people can find ways to open your hotel door even if you lock the hotel door and use the hotel latch. Please be careful and never assume you are safe. Protect yourself and think defensively.

Some hotels will charge an extra $30-$50 for an extra person staying there. It’s not always the case, just depends on the hotels policy.

"somebody is coming later, please give me two keys" Hotel staff: "ok then i need the person's information"

It’s important to tell the front desk staff that no one else is allowed up without checking with you. You don’t want a stranger following you assumed to be your imaginary friend & allowed a room key lol.

Constantly filming urself also probably helps. :)

I was with my fiancé over the summer in Vegas and at 5:30am someone actually opened the door to our room. I had closed the swing door lock before going to bed because I’m paranoid. They never actually got into our room but if I hadn’t locked the door the extra time then they would’ve. My fiancé immediately went down to the front desk, chewed them out and got our last 2 nights comped. The hotel had issued a key card for our room that we were actively staying in (and like I said we still had 2 days left so it’s not like we were checking out in a few hours). Safe to say that we’ll never be staying at that hotel again

When I have to travel alone I wear a fake engagement and wedding ring so people expect me to be with someone. If I go down for the complimentary breakfast I always bring it back to my room to eat and will take extra food to make it look like I am bringing breakfast back for someone else (and this way I have snacks for later too lol).
