I was flying from the East Coast on a nonstop flight, so it’s not gonna be as cheap as if you were flying from California or Europe. 😭 i’ve learned my lesson.💀 paid for this trip with all my own money and wanted to enjoy it not budgeting everything. The flight price is for 2 PEOPLE BTW!

I went to japan for 2 weeks... the total price for the plane, hotels, ryokan, universal studios, shikansen, tokyo, osaka, kyoto, nara, kawagoe, kamakura, enoshima, Yokohama, and a LOT of shopping and food... was the same price as her plane ticket alone.

Shopping for me is gonna be the killer. All that merch you can only get in Japan T^T

3k sounds reasonably low. My Korea trip was probably around 4k. 3k being hotel and flight

Me & GF spent $5K last summer on our 12 day trip to Japan. Most of that was airfare (bout 3500) since we only had 2 months to plan before a concert. We ate out for lunch & dinner. We're expecting to spend bout $3K for our upcoming trip. Airfare is only gonna set us back 1500 this time!

THANK YOUUUU!!!!!!!! My overplanning brain NEEDED a full breakdown like this. It's so difficult to find detailed numbers; most people just say "it'll be so much cheaper than you think!!!" and leave it at that. All I can think when people say that is "you aren't in my head. what if I'm already imagining it to be cheaper than it actually is?" I'm planning a trip to Japan for just over 1 year from now, staying for 3 weeks and have decided to save €6000 (~6800 USD) for all my expenses once there, not including flight and hotel. Excessive, I know, but I was traumatized after massively under-budgeting on my first trip abroad as an adult (to the US)- I ended up blowing through almost 70% of my budget in the first 4 days of my 3 week trip. I know I'll do a lot of shopping, I want to eat at least a few different high-end foods (particularly sushi), I'll be staying in a decent ryokan, and I'm going to be taking the Shinkansen a few times. If I don't need the full 6k, any leftovers can just be thrown back into my savings account anyway, and I don't like returning from a trip feeling broke.

I usually spend around 4-5k for a month in Tokyo including business class flight. I don't shop much. Food is cheap. Stays are around 100 per night. I just don't buy shit. What am I supposed to do with it anyways? Don't buy shit that you don't need and you drop your expenses by 1-2k+ per month. You end up throwing that stuff away within a year or two.

Im going on april with my wife, so far has been $5150 usd just on flight and hotels (we traveling from mexico direct flight to narita) and having $3500 for.personal use for 9 days. So kinda expensive, flight was the most expensive tho. I know that i can do it much cheaper with hostels but really want to have a great time as it is my honey moon.

Going in October 24th with 6 people for 2 weeks and I’ve spent $950 on, plane ticket, $500 on planned activities (universal, team labs, Kyoto tour, yokai parade, Harry Potter at Warner bros studio) , $400 on the Airbnb split between 3. I don’t plan on shopping either I have enough bs. So far 1,850 spent. My money is going to food and trains mostly. Might do shibuya sky or the go karts but meh.

For 1 person travelling for two weeks, total cost was approximately $6200 AUD so about $4400 USD. I didn't buy the JR Pass and I went to about 4 different cities. It was cheaper to buy the tickets separately by a long shot. I wasn't too frugal either as I had saved that money in a separate account for spending. This trip was about 2 months ago.

I just went to Japan and came back last week. $450 for flight. I had a place to stay for free. I spent about $207 for transportation, food and gifts. Total was $657. The only shopping I did was some snacks at Donki for gifts. I spent most of my money on transportation because I stayed about an hour outside of Tokyo and 2 hours from Narita. Food was really cheap. It would depend on where you stay, where you eat and how much shopping you do, but you can do it dirt cheap. I spent less than $5.00 a day for food.

As someone who has been and planning a second trip, considering the current state of the world, this is a very reasonable cost evaluation.

I’m currently 1 week into my 1 month Kyushu -> Tokyo Japan trip, and honesty I feel like I over-budgeted. 😂 Totally not gonna blow all my savings on shopping in Tokyo during my final week though. 👀
