I watched that Olympic's game in 1972. It was a complete crime what happened in the last 10 seconds, and the two times the refs called back the clock with 2-3 seconds left and gave the U.S.S.R. another chance was insane. Team USA got screwed. To this day none of the 72 USA men's team has taken their Silver medals, and never should.

Lithuania was the country that fought against the Soviet Union because it had been occupied. Lithuania was and is a friend of the USA and fought together against the USSR, which eventually collapsed. Lithuania did not expect to win in the semifinal against the Dream Team, as they were saving energy for the match for third place, where they faced the Russian team and defeated it.

For the record, it wasn't Jordan's team who was beat by the Soviets; it was the '88 team which was the year Jordan wasn't eligible because of the Olympic restriction of NBA players.
