It's a UNESCO World Heritage Site, famous for its dramatic cliffs, pastel-coloured cliffside villages, lemon groves, and that one impossibly winding coastal road known as the SS163. The most well-known towns are Positano, Amalfi, Ravello, Praiano, Maiori and Minori. Sorrento sits just to the north on the Bay of Naples - technically not on the Amalfi Coast itself, but often used as a base (and hands down one of my favourite towns in the area). The closest airports are Naples (about 1.5 hours away), but you could also use Rome's airports as I say in the video 🤝 The Amalfi Coast is a year-round destination, but the high season runs from June through September. Spring (April-May) and early autumn (September-October) are usually the sweet spot if you want better weather than winter, fewer crowds than midsummer, and ferries still running on full schedules. There was a glitch in my camera, so the clips where I talked about these 2 important travel tips had no audio - but they are pretty good Amalfi Coast travel tips so here we go 🤠 🚢 Ferries beat buses, every time. Once you're on the coast, skip the SITA bus and take the ferry between towns. The Travelmar ferries cost €10, they're way faster than the bus, and you get the best views of the coast as a bonus. Travelmar is the main operator - book online in advance, especially in peak season, as specific departures sell out. 🚌 If you do take a bus, buy your ticket at a "tabacchi". You can't buy SITA tickets on the bus. You have to get them in advance from a tabacchi (a tobacco shop - look for a big white T on a brown sign). Heads up: many tabacchi close for siesta between 1 and 4 PM, so buy your ticket in the morning if you're catching a later bus. The tabacchi also isn't always near the bus stop, which is one of the more annoying things about getting around here. Spent a week in Amalfi (the village) in October 2024. Stayed away from the tourist traps. Loved hiking the hills above town and visiting Atrani. Day trips to Ravello and Sorrento broke up the week.
Another absolute 💯 banger of THE best pre-trip planning guide. I would NEVER plan or book an adventure unless I checked in with Kris before I book anything.
Amalfi is beyond beautiful; deeply stunning!🎉 BUT never go in the summer; like all ultra-busty touristic destinations, Amali and it’s coastal highway costal area should only be visited in the winter. Take some warm clothing, but enjoy the quietude without massive crowds. The difference is amazing. Enjoy. And you make great videos. Sincerely.
I really liked this video until I got to the end, where you say there's no need to visit Naples. You need to see past the grittiness to enjoy the spectacular seaside, incredible architecture, fantastic food, and everything else this vibrant city has to offer. I have to say though, having been to the Amalfi Coast several times, your travel tips were spot-on and your photography/videography is beautiful.
If you visit Naples, and you should, do an organised visit, and make sure you visit the archaeological museum and Pompeii. Never miss that chance. Never!❤
In my opinion, Amalfi and Positano are nothing special. I've been there twice because I live in Croatia which is relatively close so it's not a big problem for me to pop in for a coffee or a pizza. 😂 The Amalfi coast suffers from what I call the "Pisa effect" - it's beautiful to see and take pictures of and that's about it. In fact, the road along the Amalfi Coast is much more interesting than the places themselves, but I completely agree that it is much easier and faster for tourists to board a boat in Salerno. Cinque Terre has almost identical scenery, but more spirit and I feel much better there. Unfortunately, both locations are overrun with day trippers. As for Naples, it's true that it's chaotic and dirty, but that's exactly what makes it unique among the larger Italian cities. I love it, I've been there five times and I'll go again. I believe it's a matter of mentality since I'm a southern European myself. 😊

I'm supposed to arrive in this area in 10 days (for the second time). My base is in Salerno and from there, using the bus, I plan to visit all 13 cities. The question is whether it is possible to rely on the buses having space (even though it's not July/August).

It's really funny when, in the first minute, you talk about wanting someone to tell you how to save money, and then, in the sixth minute, five minutes later, you recommend an expensive hotel with a view just to have breakfast there. That has nothing to do with saving money😂 because you just need to go to one of the many viewpoints and take a nice photo, or use one of the many bars and restaurants where I can order a coffee, a drink, or some food, and also get myself a beautiful souvenir photo. What is that about?
Most destinations are packed now that's the problem, its essential you choose the right time of year to visit. The Amalfi coast is just magical but I agree with you re Naples!

I m happy to have visited all those nice places 20 years ago, Barcelona, Firenze, Roma, etc, now everywhere you go, it s fully packed ! Now I go only in the country side, no more cities, too much crowded 😢
I’ve been and stayed in Positano. Toured lots of almafi, Pompeii, capri, Florence and more. a dream come true! The freshness of the vegetables stick out to me unlike USA even if local and organic! I wish I ate more food overall there. Need to go back!
