If the South had its way, those Black cowboys would have been slaves, sold to the people in the new states by the slave breeders in the South, because the importation of enslaved people was made illegal on Jan 1, 1808. This created a market for slaves from the Southern states. The government tried to stop new states from voting to be slaves states and that was the state's right that started the Civil War. Texas was the last state to free its enslaved people in 1865.

Only hollywood would change the truth. The market was not there for black people until the black people became tired of the same picture. So hollywood tried another angle to get you to watch & get your $. How many of you remember a series called the ‘outcasts’?
