Freeway is sleeping at my feet right now on the bed. She's been with us since May 2014, adopted from the shelter, approx 1 year old. There are many waiting for me at the bridge, I'm 73. Life is better with a dog. ❤
I love it when people say why animals do what they do. It is hilarious to me. When I talk to my dog, he tells me humans are full of shit
Axel is the most affectionate dog in the world, sleeping on my feet right now, ignoring his fancy $100 dog bed just a few feet away. I have cancer and Axel know something isn't right. He's more affectionate than ever before, and for an English springer spaniel, that's saying a lot. I don't think I could have gone through the past two years without him. I keep saying he's an angel, not a dog.
I've had 2 dogs since I retired in 2013. I had Sophie for 12 yrs before cancer took her. Then there was Bailey who I just lost to cancer 3 wks ago after 8 yrs. I'm 78 & live alone. I'm searching now for my next pup. Life is so much better with a dog. When kids & grandkids are grown & busy, my dog is a daily joy that I miss.
18:46 My dog licks me under 3 circumstances … when she needs to wake me up to let her outside, when she is apologizing for biting too hard during rough play, and when I ask for affection.
I want to mention. Gale, I cried about you leaving for atleast 10 years. You were my first pet and my first German Shepherd. You came to me when I was 4 years old and one day I came home from school and you were gone. To the farm I was told. I have never cried or grieved for anything as much as I did for you. I am 57 years old and I have a tear in my eye now thinking about it. My first best friend 🧡
Say what you will, I'm not turning away from doggie kisses.
I understand how people think that dogs don’t feel guilt. But when you walk in and your sneakers are destroyed and only one of your three dogs reacts with pinned ears and tucked tail, you know who’s guilty. (And of course you know your dogs so you already knew that anyway)
Dogs are just dogs, some are very smart. Mine aren't the best dogs but they're very loving and crave my attention. They always stay near me and are never far away. They're our best friends for a short time, but we're their best friends for their whole lives!
Kita.,. She's on the other side now. She was never sick a day in her life until she got cancer. If she was sitting next to me, she might reach out and lick me once on the nose. She would eat grass once in awhile, I'm pretty sure it's just because she liked it! She was an Australian Shepherd who was 13 and 1/2 when we said goodbye. She looked and acted 5. No cataracts, no arthritis, she could hear a leaf drop, she was still sharp and with the program just like in her younger years. She still ran like the wind, and the black patches on her face we're not turning gray. She wasn't aging. The osteosarcoma took about 3 months before she told me she was ready to say goodbye ❤️
My pitty had 2 shoes to chew and never did it again he has not ever gone through the trash can...he has had 3 accidents I not once got angry wasn't his fault I didn't make home in time to walk him... I've not ever gotten frustrated or angry with my baby
Xander, my current GSD, Rex, Kona, and Pepper, are my boys that have crossed the rainbow bridge. The hardest part of being a dog lover, saying goodbye, and it seems to get harder as I get older . Hope they are all waiting for me whenever it’s my time to cross, that would be a heaven for me.
Bella is my golden doodle. She shows us unconditional love. Never thought I'd get another dog after I lost my German shepherd to cancer years ago.
I have had several precious dogs in my lifetime. From childhood to now , and I am 73. I have to say I don't exactly agree with everything you said. First of all, I do understand that when dogs make messes if you show anger or frustration most dogs in turn will become nervous or frightened. Others might try sheepishly to change your response by submission, or acts of playfulness. But to say they don't know how to understand guilt I think is not true. Knowing something is wrong, knowing the word "bad", helps teach them this. You never have to raise your voice or hit an animal. They learn just like humans do, when done properly. I don't think it's always fear that gets them to do it. I think they genuinely have a desire to please you and feel bad when they don't. Secondly, any time my dogs ate grass it was because they had an upset stomach. Sometimes dogs will get gastro intestinal issues, causing too much stomach acid, bowel problems etc. Eating certain grasses that contain enzymes, almost like a pepcid for a human, helps alleviate this. They even have cat food for indoor cats that can't get to the outdoors for these nutrients also. So this isn't just for the pure pleasure of tasting. And last, my dog licks me several different ways. He definitely kisses me when he affectionately licks my face. When he wants to go to bed at night which means going outside first to the bathroom, and he definitely wants my attention now, he will start licking my legs. That's the only time he ever licks them, so it's not for the taste, but the act he is conveying. So all dogs are not alike I am sure, but please don't underestimate them either. ..
Marco is sleeping on the chair I''m in. Connaugh and Sam are at the Rainbow Bridge. All of them are the best friend I could ever have.
If dogs lived "almost entirely in the moment" they wouldn't mourn lost companions. They wouldn't seek out your dirty clothes. Or use a stuffed animal as a security blanket. And we have proof that they do all of that.
I guess I have the only dog that channels her inner Shaggy. I swear you can hear “It wasn’t me” playing as she walks off without a care in the world!
I grew up with many cats and dogs. Lost my little terrier in April 2022 (nearly 18!), followed by his little Lancs Heeler buddy in Jan 2023 (15 but missed his mate terribly and rapidly deteriorated). I really told myself I wouldn't get another dog until I heard about a GSD who needed rehoming. That was a few months after losing the last of the little ones. Max will be 8 this year and I've had to start him on a supplement for his joints due to how active he is and his breed. We have a very strong bond and I love him to bits! ❤🐕🦺
As a Gen X empty nester, Pigg, my daughter’s “break up” Pug, is always by my side when I have restlessness or insomnia. Often, she will look at me from across the room with her knowing eyes asking “you good?” At the moment she is swaddled next to me on a cold morning, snoring away. God knows it would be seriously difficult to navigate life without her. 🐾
Tippy, Jussie, Charlet, Pritty. RIP Jack, Sophie, Patty, Buddy Hibbs, Sonnie, Marina, Jazzy, Callie loo, BoBo, Fiesty Mckiever.
