Dog sleep psychology, attachment science, and 15,000 years of evolution, because your dog has a perfectly good bed and has never once used it. There's actually a reason for that. And once you understand it, you'll never look at your dog the same way again. In this video: attachment theory, the oxytocin loop, a 14,000 year old burial site, and what it means if your dog suddenly stops. t’s fascinating how dogs use closeness as a sign of trust and protection. Sleeping next to their owner really shows a strong bond.
Such an interesting perspective! I never realized that a dog choosing to sleep with you could say so much about trust and emotional bonding. It really shows how deeply connected they are to their humans 🐶💛
Beautifully explained. Focusing on what we want the dog to do rather than just correcting the 'bad' behavior is the key to a healthy bond. Loved this approach.
"You're the safest thing in their world" actually got me. I teared up. ☺☺
I always thought my dog was just being a bit clingy, but learning about the 15,000-year evolution and the oxytocin loop really changed my perspective. It's mind-blowing that our nervous systems actually co-regulate during sleep. Knowing that my dog views me as his 'safe person' during his most vulnerable state makes those stolen mattress inches feel like a huge compliment. Thank you for explaining the science so clearly—it's not just about warmth; it's a profound biological bond. Every dog owner needs to see this
This didn't change how I see my dog.. just reaffirmed my bond with my two pups.
Dogs are incredibly intuitive, and the way they choose to sleep says so much about trust, comfort, and emotional connection. When a dog sleeps beside you, it really does feel like one of the purest forms of love and loyalty.
My dog loves being the little spoon. If I sleep on my back, his head is always on his shoulder with his nose shoved against my neck. Sometimes he gets too warm and finds his own spot, but every time we get ready to go to sleep, it’s always the same. It really is amazing to be trusted and loved so deeply
It's so important to learn how u make your dog feel safe
I loved this. I miss my Pup. Enjoy every moment with them. The time we had is worth 10 times more than every tear I shed.
My dog sleeps completely under the blankets and under my legs. He is as safe as can be. Makes me feel so safe too.
My best friend of the past thirteen and a half years took his final nap today surrounded by family. He used to hop up into my bed and nap and sleep with me often, especially during the last year of his life. I’m very glad he felt that he was safest around me, and I’m going to miss him tremendously. Thanks for everything, Bacon. I’ll see you again soon.
A line that rips me to shreds every time I think about it: to you, your pet is a big part of your world. To your pet? You ARE their world. You are their access to living and thriving. You are their everything and I want to cry and hug my cat every time
My dog is very cooperative. We split the bed 50/50. He takes the middle half and I get 25% on each side.
I’m not crying,,,, you are! 🥹🥹🥹😭❤️
This made me cry… I miss my dog 😢
I took an old crib mattress and welded up a frame for it that put it at the exact same height as our king sized bed. My golden retriever Teddy sleeps on it. To start. Then at two or 3 AM he is pushing us out of the way! All I have to say is “Teddy’s bed” and he moves back to his space. It’s a perfect match to keep him happily near us, but not crowding us and charming to know why he does what he does.
My dog slept in my bed for 15 years and it's where she passed away. My family was fortunate enough to be told by our vet that as long as she wasn't in pain we could take her home and let her pass there. It was the toughest and most intimate experience I've ever had, knowing that it was her last hours with us, but I always knew that laying beside me on her last night on this planet was all she wanted... May we all be so lucky to pass in the presence of the person we loved the most. 5 years later and I still miss them and on occasion dream about them, so yeah dogs are far more special than some people give them credit
I've slept in a bed with 7 Chihuahua and it's wonderful. Three have already passed away after 16, 17, and 17 years of age respectively. The four that remain are my everything ❤️ Waking up alongside them every morning is a joy I would never give up for the world. No matter how much room they take on my small bed.
Thought I'd watch an interesting scientific video. Now I'm crying because i love my dog so much (as she sleeps soundly on me, snoring).
