The Bread-And-Butter Impacts of Climate Action | Food Systems, Gender & Climate Justice Webinar

Food, climate, and justice are deeply connected and already shaping everyday livelihoods across the world. This webinar, “The Bread-And-Butter Impacts of Climate Action: Unpacking Interventions for Food Security, Gender & Climate Justice,” brought together voices from Ghana, the Sahel, and the US Deep South to explore how climate change, inequality, and local innovation are transforming food systems. Convened through a human rights lens, the discussion recognised that the right to food, health, livelihood, and dignity is directly impacted by climate change. Unequal exposure to climate stress continues to deepen vulnerabilities, particularly for women and structurally marginalised communities, making gender-responsive climate action essential. From women-led shea processing and community conservation initiatives in Northern Ghana, to fonio producers preserving indigenous food systems across the Sahel, to food sovereignty and racial justice movements in Mississippi, the conversation highlighted lived experiences, practical strategies, and opportunities for cross-regional collaboration. Moderator Noel Didla – Co-Founder, Deep South Solidarity Fund Speakers Dr Cindy Ayers Elliott – Founder & Chief Executor, Foot Print Farms LLC Alex Lawson – Co-Steward, Center for Mississippi Food Systems Chef Fatmata Binta – Founder, Dine On A Mat & Fulani Kitchen Foundation This webinar was organised by Reform Initiatives in collaboration with Deep South Solidarity Fund and the Centre for Mississippi Food Systems.
