Towed Home after my engine died: Stripping the 4JJ1 to find out why.

Autos and Vehicles

My Holden Rodeo (4JJ1 3.0L diesel) broke down in town - check engine light on, wouldn't rev past idle, no power, had to get it towed home. The code pointed at the EGR valve not closing, and when I pulled it off it was partially stuck open and packed with carbon. Once I had it apart I found the intake manifold badly choked as well, so that came off and got cleaned out too. And since I was already that far in, with the rocker cover seal leaking, I pulled the rocker cover, checked the valve clearances (most needed adjusting) and replaced the seals while I was there. Back together and it's running perfectly - no light, no codes, noticeably quieter and pulling better than it has since I've owned it. Same engine is fitted to the Isuzu D-Max and Holden Colorado
