My Dad died 9 years ago. He was an incylopedia of old school repairs. He used to rebuild WW II Era radial aircraft engines. He used to tell me about his 1950's hotrods. They couldn't afford or couldn't buy headers so they "SPLIT the manifolds." They "TUNED" their exhaust with white paint. They welded their spiders, and indexed their plugs. They blueprinted and balanced their engines with calipers and a paint scale. He once put a wooden piston in his car so he could get to work. His daily driver in the 1960's was a real 392 hemi in a 1950 Dodge. He built motor mounts for my 1955 International pickup I drove to school in 1978, using the old mounts and the tread from a worn out tire. He could make anything run. I miss him
I used that ring groove tool on a 44 massey tractor with a continental engine. Worked like a dream.
Machine shops were and are so important. Don't let manufacturers decide when is obsolete.

“Made obsolete” meaning they made a shittier more expensive version that constantly needs to be fed money for repairs and they stopped making the parts for the old one that was just fine
That's a WAYYYY cool tool! Old school rocks. Back in the day, we used a broken ring to clean the groove and let the cylinder bore to do the centering...😅 THANKS for sharing! 👍

You can replace those pistons with many of other pistols that can be modified to fit if need be. I thank you for your videos I've learned so much from y'all and enjoy your videos. Again thank you for your time and investment in these videos I really appreciate them.
When I was a kid, we would knerl the bottom of the piston also to take up clearance. 😂 hey, it worked.
I inherited some engine tools from my dad that were used to overhaul flat head engines. Those tools were really neat looking and I had them for 20 years. Never used them and a I sold them to a mechanic that need them to rebuild an engine. Didn't mind getting rid of them since they were still going to be used.
