I’m a mechanic and with 42 years experience I’m 59 and been on the spanner’s since I was a kid dad was a marine outboard motor mechanic too. I’ve specialised in auto transmissions for 25 years. I wholeheartedly agree with this list . I want to add a little beauty which I feel you overlooked. A 2014 -2018 Mazda 3 BM 25 GT 2.5 liter . My wife drives one and it’s a beautiful car superbly fitted out . Pre to technical. I’ve seen many do 350 k kilometers and still running perfectly my wife’s one has done 250k and it’s been faultless. Hi from Cape Town. I bought a FJ Cruiser new in 2012. Most reliable vehicle I have ever had. My wife will not climb in a car if it has broken down 3 times. When my Discovery let us down the third time that was it and I had to buy a new car. She mentioned to me the other day that we would have to drive the FJ until we pass away as it has never broken down in the past 14 years.
Owned a 1997 Volvo 850r, rebuilt everything and drove it to 976,000 kms before I sold it in 2015 to a collector for little over 20k. Loved that wagon

FYI, the Toyota Crown 12-14gen share the same N platform with the GS, and generally cheaper but I say they give you 80% of the Lexus experience.

I had a 2006 Land Cruiser 100 V8. Fantastic vehicle. Sold it this year. Engine and gearbox are bullet proof. The problem is the vehicle is mechanically complex, with multiple subsystems which eventually wear out. I only did 26k kilometers in it in 7 years. Replaced 5 tires, T-pipes, batteries, aerial, front discs, tensioner pulley, hydraulic suspension pump, power steering pump, fusible link, aircon (massive job, strip the entire dashboard), steering rack, windscreen and a few other things. Total maintenance costs equaled the cost of the vehicle, though services were cheap. Most work was done by Toyota. Sold before the 4 suspension bulbs went, which are up to $9000 Aussie to replace. I effective paid the same as the new price in 2006. Still less than the cost of a new car today(or in 2019), but far from cost free.
Like my 3 door 2005 Rav4, bought it new, still have it, only just run in, with only 80000kS on the clck.

The golden age of cars is 1990 through 2012... you will find the most reliable and generally easy to fix.. practically every manufacturer was producing quality reliable cars... compared to today's standards these cars are tanks...

Just over three years ago I saw a YouTube video by two chaps who go by the name of Hull and Morris. They recommended I buy a 2005 - 6 Lexus LS430. So I did. I found it to be indestructible, comfortable and really cheap to run. These two blokes really know their stuff. I can imagine having the LS for a VERY long time.
Bought a 92 Hilux for $500 20 years ago. Still runs like a dream. 220,000km on the engine. She a baby.
Imagine if the Ineos came as a povo pack with all the electronics removed and a manual option and a reasonable price, like $80-$85k. They could do it. But they won't/(can't due to bureaucrats). A man can dream.
