Did you know that many modern car alternators have a built-in one-way clutch inside the pulley?! 🚗⚡ On older vehicles, the alternator pulley was a solid piece of steel bolted directly to the rotor shaft. However, modern engines experience sudden deceleration whenever the transmission shifts or the throttle closes. Because the internal rotor of an alternator is heavy and spins at high RPM, sudden engine slowdowns can cause the serpentine belt to violently vibrate, slip, and wear out prematurely. To fix this, automotive engineers created Overrunning Alternator Decoupler (OAD) pulleys. In this test, a technician wraps string around the pulley to rip-cord spin the alternator up to speed. When he stops the internal rotor with a tool, the outer pulley continues to smoothly freewheel! If this one-way clutch seizes up, your engine belt will squeal and chatter aggressively.

No clutch, has a mosfet controlling the magnet field of the rotor, no field it freedoms, max field it causes resistance.
That alternator pulley does not have a sprag if you can see the nut holding it to the alternator shaft

The internal rotor is attached to the inner shaft, and the inner shaft is attached to the pulley. The pulley, shaft, and rotor spins freely because the electric coils aren't connected to an electric load. Once an electric load is connected the rotor will start doing work and resist turning. I've seen a worked on a lot of automotive alternators and I've never seen any with a clutch. The only "clutch" is the work load from making electric power.
More common on diesels, they are used because of the vibrations that diesels can make ae idle

Its called a tri-diode infractor and is a major part of the contabulator circuit. It converts radial rotation into positive charged ions that travel through copper conduits to specified electronic devices. Such as extremely high voltage capacitor discharge modules or in most instances amplitude powered sound generating mechanisms.

There is very few alternators with a Sprague most have only a pulley connected directly to the shaft. ALTERNATORS ARE ONE THING I KNOW A LOT ABOUT..
If you run the alternator backwards it increases Mileage since it is pulling the car. Just a little tip from your Uncle Larry (lol)!

Not every alternator pulley is a freewheel pulley. My car has a fixed pulley for example.
Many vehicles do have clutches if equipped with an OAD (overrunning alternator decoupler) approximately 70 million vehicles in North America. if not it’s just a standard solid/oap pulley
