I look at Voyagers 1 and 2 as my kids as I watched them take off into SPACE in 1977 and were expected to last 5 to 10 years. Here we are in 2026 and they are still going. They not only call home to update but they also have had conversations with other things in space. So proud.
It is amazing and wonderful what humanity can accomplish when we arenβt killing each other and celebrating stupidity and ignorance.

distance is not light-years but 23 light hours, which is enormous anyway.
Insane! I got into the electronics industry in 1975 and still active today as an engineering consultant. 8088 microprocessors and single transistors in a tiny metal can with three wire leads attached. Progress has accelerated at mind numbing speed and yet this "ancient" piece of equipment still operational 47 years later.

My Brother-in-Law worked at JPL on the voyager program for a decade or so.
My brother, who recently passed away, assembled some of the components in the radio transmitters. If the Voyagers are ever analyzed by sentient beings they may get around to thinking about who actually did such a good job. He was a quiet man of patience, honesty, and perfection in his craftsmanship. No such thing as βgood enough.β He served his country and never missed a dayβs work.
Tremendous redundancy built into Voyagers 1 and 2. I learn something more about this almost fifty year old mission every time I click on one of these shorts. And now that I have learned that an exact replica of it was made and that NASAs engineers have it available to test on, I say βyes, of course they must have had such a replicaβ. Very prudent. Very clever.
As a long retired service engineer (80) having worked on very early ATM's with memory PCB's of a few a Kb the size of a small suitcase I fully appreciate the amazing tech. behind all this. I truly envy the tech. guys dealing with this mission.
