Gee it’s been a tough crowd with the ranger super duty, ford spent money with a basically new chassis, stronger 8 stud diffs, front and rear lockers, gvm to suit towing, proper snorkel plus like other rangers you have aux switches and you can buy arb gear with it and still retain factory warranty. Yet everyone finds plenty to whinge about, Toyota release a new 70 series and still haven’t corrected the track width they literally spend the minimum to update it. People also complain about the cost yet buy anything else and spend money modding it to get to a level of a super duty.
Be realistic. If you’re towing 4.5T…. Who the fuck are u overtaking 😂

Sold my 79 series for the Super Duty, owned it for around 6 months I’ve done 10,000kms and towed 3.5T for probably 4,000kms. Yes it’s a bit sluggish but that’s all the negatives in my opinion. I love it.

I've owned one now for 4 months and it really is a good ute. Much of the hate comes from people who just don't understand the vehicle, or driven one for any length of time. I think the vehicle's strength is in its off-road abilities while carrying a bit of weight in a canopy. I don't see this is a good tow vehicle for anything above 3.5 t due to its engine power, but having said that, in real-world conditions it does as good if not better than the other utes on the market. Yes the engine is detuned, but so was the 1VD-FTV in the 70 series. I find it ridiculous how people drag race these against other brands and complain when a 3 t SD isn't as quick as a 2.3 t competitor. When you consider the SD comes standard with steel bar work, winch, steel tray, 33" wheels, heavy duty chassis, it does alright from my experience. I say well done Ford for having a crack at building something like this.
100% reckon this was made for commercial use in mind, companys buying these banging heaps of tools and such on done, where as with other utes you gotta probably GVM upgarde 1st

You’re late to the party with this Ronald. They’ve been reviewed by every man and his dog already.
I’m not even a big Ranger fan but it seems to have done pretty well to be honest. Keep in mind the suspension is stock, looks like it could flex great if you upgraded to longer shocks and coils, got a bigger offset, chuck some 35’s on it as well. I have a very heavily modified Triton on 33.5’s, I’ve re-geared the diffs and that’s probably put me at around 5-6kmph in 1st low downhill, you’re not getting to get better than that with any of the stock utes, I’ve twin locked it, I’ve upgraded every component of the suspension, even tuned and regeared its only 500nm at the wheels which is still more torque than you’re ever going to need off road anyway, 600nm with more weight will be just fine. All of us who own smaller utes have had to modify a ton to do what this thing would be doing with just a good suspension set up. Seems pretty good.
Couple things with it. 1. The downhill decent speed can be changed with the cruise control so that can come down to 2kph. 2. The body tray is the lightest option as a tray. The steel tray options will obviously impact that harshness of ride. But again it’s meant to have load in it. 3. I heard they detuned the engine due to emissions regulations unfortunately. This detuned version still runs at temperatures found on the sun. It’s stupid either way. Also. I’m not sure about the questions toward GVM without actually putting it at that limit? And the red line test with putting blokes on the tray. It has to move of the rear would shatter your spine unloaded. And those springs are designed to flex to a point. Are we expecting the line not to move? I’m confused about what you want there. I’m not sure what the point was of what we just watched
That " De - tuning " was really a REDISTRIBUTION of Power . It's a Turbo Engine , so they have moved the Power Lower and BROADER .
Only needs two things to make it close to perfect: (1) an engine tune, and (2) improved cooling. Dollar for dollar, it’s hard to beat.
Of course they detuned it, there is a limit to what an V6 engine designed to be as short and light as possible for a Range Rover, with narrow main and big end bearings and questionable lubrication can do when towing 4 tonnes on a hot day uphill, it just can't pull 180 Kw continuously all day long and hang together.
As long as it tows the Mardi Gra float ranger wheel attendants will be happy.
Looks like a solid tow vehicle for the grey nomads that don’t want to do the harder off road stuff. I see heaps of these in Kununurra towing big, comfy caravans
Realistically, how many people are actually towing 4.5 to 8 tonnes gcm? Most are in the 2–2.5 tonne or 3–3.5 6 tonne gcm range. I think a lot of people are missing the point. Instead of buying a new ute and then spending thousands of dollars modifying the suspension, paying for GVM/GCM upgrades, and potentially affecting your factory warranty to achieve the payload or towing capacity you need, why not start with a vehicle that's engineered for it from the factory? That's exactly where something like the Super Duty makes sense. It's a turnkey package designed from day one to carry higher loads and tow heavier weights without the need for aftermarket modifications, while retaining the factory warranty. Toyota, Isuzu, Nissan, Mitsubishi and the rest might all advertise a 3.5-tonne towing capacity, but they're already operating at the upper end of what they were designed for. In my opinion, towing at those maximum limits on a regular basis isn't something I'd be comfortable doing. I'd rather have a vehicle that has been engineered from the factory with a much bigger safety margin. In short people who are after more power out of the v6 the HPF factory has unlocked the ecu and can now tune it back to the original power figures and also they have turbo upgrade as well and are able to go even further with it. But that's totally up to the individual.
They should have offered the coyote v8 or 6.7L HO powerstroke.
The concept of a super duty ranger still baffles me, it reminds me of when chevy was still in its mid 2000s growing pains and decided that we needed a 1500-3500, and a 1500HD-3500HD. Could never get a clear answer on the difference between a 2500HD for my expedition truck vs a 3500 besides "Suspension" and tune, and this video is almost a mirror of that same confusion I had.
