It's worth remembering id software just unionized a few months ago. That move probably devalued the studio in the eyes of Microsoft.

I'm super pissed about the ID software layoffs...they've done nothing but make great games for decades. There's just no way this makes any sense.

If they don't plan to use Id Tech, open source every version that hasn't been before so other devs can put it to good use. This is such a waste of such good devs and tech.

Cutting the Id Tech engineering team is unbelievable. Like, I can't even understand it. Nintendo or Sony should legit hire the entire Id Tech engineering team and buy the Id tech IP if Microsoft isn't going to use it. That's a goldmine right there. Nintendo should also buy Rareware back. It has to be extraordinarily cheap at this point.

Cutting Id tech is insane... Why not use it for more games then? License the engine! They could have a major competitor to unreal engine.. (probably less user friendly tooling but still) Selling the studio would have been so much better
